I think the problem is that guitar hero has changed. If the first guitar hero had the budget it had now, they wouldn't have even considered licensing lame modest mouse songs and crap like that. They would've gotten songs like "Stairway to heaven", "Master of Puppets", "Freebird", "Aces High" and "Electric Eye." The original GH setlist was comprised of Iconic classic rock songs and some stuff by smaller/indy bands that was obviously the result of budget restrictions, but more importantly it was (mostly) stuff you would want to play on the guitar. Why? Because the concept was "play a game that makes you feel like a rock star." hence the music was stuff you would correlate with "rock star." Now they want to appeal to a broader audience, and hence the setlist varies from classic rock and metal in order to be more mainstream.

I've never been interested in the guitar hero games that much, sure their ok for parties but not much else. Having said that, going by that list it seems useless as I don't see any I know and thus couldnt play/sing along to.

Don't know that I care to post in a months-old thread, other than to disagree. I've never rocked out harder than to "You Give Love a Bad Name" (no, not even to "Through the Fire and the Flames"), and the fact that the OP's "bad" list includes Song 2, Sympathy for the Devil, Woman from Tokyo, and friggin' Superstition leads me to conclude that our tastes are incredibly different.

..."Freebird" is on Guitar Hero 2, "Master of Puppets" is on Guitar Hero: Metallica, and Led Zepplin has refused to license any of their songs, so no "Stairway to Heaven." Not sure if you knew that.
