I got this game and enjoyed, which led to me getting the latest Call of Juarez game: Bound in Blood. Have to agree that most of the gameplay works well, and I particularly liked the Bounty hunter side missions, sometimes you had to bring them in alive, kill them, or one of your choice (though alive gave more money). The length was what bothered me most about the game. It is short and once you do the handful of side missions, theres nothing to do except annoy the local town and take them all down in a showdown (made broken if you had either the gattling gun, the handcannon or the invincible horse!).

As for the difficulty settings, I have to agree with you. I managed to get to the final part of the game, confronting the big baddie, but on that difficulty pretty much one shot will kill you.

Still, it was one of my favourite games for the PS2, thanks for making me feel nostalgic!

The purpose of the bow was silent head shots... and trust me, they were every bit as brutal as you would imagine... complete with a sort of wet, gritty thunk sound as the arrowhead penetrated the brain... it was my favorite weapon.
Well perhaps I underestimated the bow a tad, but I never found it helpful myself. That head-spiking does sound appealing, though.

Everyone else seems to like it a lot as well, you know. No need to defend your opinion in a room full of like-minded individuals, eh?

True, but most people I know hated it for being to easy and too short.

Yeah, it was really short. Played for about 10 hours and beat the vast majority of sidequests and storyline missions. Think I got to about 75% of the story and 90% of the side stuff. Could have finished it in another 2 hours but figured that sleeping would probably be a good thing eventually

Funny I just picked up a copy for the 360 a few weeks ago because I wanted to replay it. It only cost me $5 though, so go for whatever console you want.

I think people are letting the excessive brevity of Gun be an excuse to mark the game down considerably. Yes it's obviously a problem, but since only the 360 version has retained its value at all you can get the game for a pittence in most cases. Whoever ticked "yes, it's bad" up on that poll, you gots some 'splaining to do.

Yeah that last boss was a ***** to beat...

But still loved the game replayed it a couple of times. I'm a person where I could play with a game for hours across multiple play troughs, no matter how many times that I have beaten it. So in a open world game like GUN I could spend hours just running around the game world, doing random stuff.

I had heard allot about this game just as i started gaming (admitadly a bit late as my first consol was the limited edition platinum GameCube) but being even too young for the teen games I never played it. More then 5 years later (I think but dout) I had it leant to me by my cousin. I played it on the xbox 360 and loved it all the way through (unfortunatley only 2-3 days). Even though this game is dated I still rate far above games like killzone 2, cod world at war, and if only in singleplayer nastalgia mw2 (though the single player campaing was amazing it had a really hard to follow story that required a couple willing playthroughs to figure out). This is an amazing game and it probably though not confirambly available on the xbox market place. Deffinatley go pick it up.

P.S.

If your wondering about the mw2 plot as much as I was then know that there is a hard to find but blaintantly obvious if you paided very close attention, tie in to cod4 that vaugley explains everything.

Good times with the PS2 game back in the day. Shame there is NOTHING to do after all the missions and sidequests.
Well, I just piled up a lot of dynamite barrels around my horse, and fired a dynamite bow into it. That was a lot of fun. In fact, as a general rule, the dynamite bow made everything more fun. Especially mindless slaughter of random people in towns.
...god...bless...you... DYNAMITE BOOWW!

I tried hiring this game from the video store the other day. Unfortunately I wasn't a member and they wouldn't let me rent it. Am I the only one who finds it retarded they won't lend you a game or film (or even fucking talk to you) unless you're a member?

Gun was the first game I ever played for the Xbox 360. I enjoyed playing it a lot, though it took me 2 tries to kill the final boss because I didn't know what to do and ran out of ammo and sword rushed him (which was a bad idea). You'd figure shooting him the face would work but no, the chestplate blocks his entire body from damage. Hurr I'm thick.

I loved this game, however the Image that depicts the Bow as worthless is actually during a bossfight...every other time it's a OHK.
True, but I just wanted a visual representation of how unhelpful I generally found the bow. The image might be used out of context, but it serves my purposes.
