I've noticed that if there are guys playing as girl characters, it is usually for one of three reasons.
1) They want to mooch off of the guy populace that want to supply the "girl" with stuff to make "her" life easier and to steal the one "girl" off the internet from the other female-starved men of the gaming nation.
2) They don't want to stare at a man's derriere for the entire duration of their play-time.
3) Sometimes playing a girl character is more fun (i.e games where the class the player wants is strictly female).
I gender-bend my characters for reasons 2 and/or 3.
... How do you have fun with playing as a girl? I don't get it girls jump rope and paint there nails thats fun to you? and and pretty much for number two you just sit there and masturbate while leveling up your girl chara?.... I just don't get these reasons..there is only one reason i understand and its when that guy said he'd rather be a girl then a guy. That is the only reason for playing as a girl character in a game that represents yourself.
I think you're thinking too deeply about it. I doubt that anyone gets off to their characters. I just don't want to stare at male ass for however many hours I'm going to sink into the game, and sometimes some equipment is limited to females only, so I make a female character to get the advantages of those pieces of equipment.

I generally tend to make the character look as much like me as possible. Being a man who is lightly dark. I've never been a female but this whole get something for nothing is neat..

For me, it depends on if I'm trying to make a specific character. I'm a girl, but I have a lot of guy characters, so I play as guys a lot just because that's the character I want to be in the game.

How sexist can you be? As if all girls were pink-lovers who spend all their time painting their fingernails and gossipping over the phone.
I understand preferring male characters over female ones, but, seriously, saying something as idiotic as "how can you have fun playing as a girl" makes me worry about the current state of the gene pool. I'm guessing your age to be about 12-14.

I play as a female character when either it makes more sense within the context of the story (my character in Oblivion had a horse, and I'm so used to seeing women ride with both legs to one side of the horse that it would be confusing to see them ride like men) or the character model looks better. Case in point, the GW Mesmer. The male model is meh, but the female model is drop-dead stunning.

I'm a chick, and my main on LotRO is a male.

Although he's an elf, so he's not that far off from being a chick himself..

Yeah I tend to play as a guy.
I can then concentrate on the game instead of the moron harassing me.

Sadly, I have seen a plethora of female avatars in town squares in Guild Wars down to their basic equipment (i.e. naked) spending more time dancing than playing the actual game.
at any rate, I tend to only play as a male, regardless of whether a class is gender-specific. though, in retrospect, the usual culprits are "Mage-type" classes, of which I never really use anyways.

If its a third person game I usually pick a female character, if available. Not really because I prefer any sex over the other, but if I have to spend hours watching someone's ass, it might as well be an ass I like watching.

Why do some guys choose to play as girl characters? I always choose my same gender yet everyone assumes I'm a guy playing a girl which makes me think that is more common that girls actually playing a MMORPG. What are your thoughts on this and are there any girls who play male characters?
Most RPGs where I have the choice I'll have a female character, same goes for MMOs (heck even my EVE character is female, and she's little more than a picture until "Walking in Stations" gets released.

The reason why: Female RPG characters are in general given better voice acting (try comparing Mass Effect Female Sheppard's voice to the male one, the female actress is so much better) and it's more pleasant to look at. Combine that with the fact that I usually don't like the gritty men with gravelly voices set up most male characters have and you'll understand why I prefer female characters. I'm not exactly a steroid fuelled dick-on-legs myself, so playing as one of those is quite uncomfortable, female character mindsets are easier to get into for me.

In MMOs I don't hide the fact that I'm male, if someone goes all "mushy" over my female character I just tell them I'm a guy and they'll usually leave me alone.
Haven't had anyone giving me grief for playing a female character yet (not even in WoW).

here's the break down although both petty and slightly boring, for me personally it become what you want to see for playing hours on end in a video game and personally I don't mind eying a female physic.

i use both. in oblivion, for example, the armour looks better on guys, so i have a guy character.

and in SR2 i'm this badass chick with dreads ^^

but then in MMO's, i generally use chicks, cos theyre usually much better looking :D

you'd rather have them make a new thread so people can complain about how no one ever searches the forum ?
