Recently I can't decide which game to pick that will hold me over till Christmas either Halo 4 or Black Ops 2. I always get CoD whenever it first comes out, but since halo 4 was announced, I 've been feeling a need to maybe try something different for once, but I can't decide as they both look good. I can't get both as I rely on a student loan for food and travel and need to be careful on how I spend it so it can hold me over until my next loan comes in (plus I feel guilty when i use it for things that aren't university related) So I leave my decision to the Escapist, which game should I get?

Maybe you should wait for them both to come out before asking this question...

I'm personally getting both of them Day 1 but I've always preferred Call of Duty over Halo. However, while I have no reason to think I won't love Black Ops 2 and Halo 4, can I really give you an educated response until I've gotten to actually play them?

Get a job in the Great Game of Life.

OT - I'm even less of a Halo fan than I am a CoD fan, so I guess I'd say CoD. I'd be inclined to mention CSGO but am assuming we're talking X Box and not PC, and CSGO doesn't have aim assist, so I won't mention it.

Don't get either on Day 1. Fools rush in. I would say that the recent plans to make sexism a bannable offence in Halo 4 swing the poll in that game's favour. If you're looking for a tolerable multi-player game, that is. You know Call of Duty's going to be more expensive in the long run, anyway. Halo 4 has a map editor under development at the moment, and the ratings I've read seem positive enough.

Halo 4 has already produced some pretty stellar reviews, but I've always learned to take the ratings of Triple-A games with a grain of salt knowing they will almost always produce scores of 9 and up, regardless of their overall quality.

As good as Halo 4 looks however, I've never really been drawn in to the multiplayer.

And to BO2's credit - zombies. Nothing beats zombies.

Err I'd say neither, to be honest. You're better off getting something else...like Dark Souls and Deus Ex.

But meh, PERSONALLY, I could never dig Halo...and with Call of Duty, I've played them every year since COD4, so I'm absolutely sick of them.

I'd get better, cheaper games if I were you.

I'll say Halo 4. I mean I have been a Halo fan ever since number 2 and bought them all till this day. (ODST was...meh)

The Call of Duty series beat me with a wrench over the head several times after Modern Warfare 2 came out...that thing makes Call of Duty 4 look like a saint...so no I won't get COD:BO2, just looks average with a new time space.

So Halo 4.

Honestly Halo 4 is great for everything. Especially since I can do offline co-op. :D

Honestly, I'd say Halo 4 if you're not really psyched up for Black Ops 2. A cheaper alternative might be CSGO.

I much, much, much prefer Halo to Call of Duty, so Halo 4 gets my vote. And anyway, it's been two years since Halo Reach came out, and only one since MW3.

Halo 4.

Seeing as most Halo games have quality Single player experiences (good characters/writing awesome backstory and lore) and the multiplayer actually builds communities (like a good game should) and is meant to stick around for a few years, and not just 12 months.

Though I've never been the type to "hate" people for liking CoD. I enjoyed CoD from about MW2 to Black Ops alongside Halo, TF2, BFBC2 and the like, but I just lost interest in the same game every year, you know :/

Both have fantastic multiplayers but I have to say that Halo beats CoD by a lot. Also Halo has a much better single player than the CoD games.

I just beat Halo 4 and can vouch for a very good campaign. The multiplayer I haven't played much but its not bad. I dislike how much they changed the multiplayer around though. There are now rewards for a certain amount of kills and you have to buy weapons/grenades/armor abilities for loudouts that you start off with when you spawn.

Also, while I am here. How do I get a .gif avatar to work? Whenever I upload it it turns into a .jpg image.

Bioshock infinite.
But until then try halo 4. I hear its ok from critics.
Black ops on the other hand is another cod game in my opinion which isnt much of a change from the last one.
But choose what you want. I haven't bought either game yet so what I say may not influence you at all.

Honestly, I'm gonna have to go with Black Ops here. Me and my friends were playing the single player and a little multiplayer all night, and this game is a mess.

The single player is just so boring. It's extremely linear, and has completely lost the old charm that the other Halo campaigns have had. It just feels so damn empty in comparison to Reach.

It is insanely short. I didn't even believe my friend when he told me we were already on the fifth mission (out of 8), and literally nothing had happened in the game yet. It was seriously like three hours, and we had almost beaten it. Half the fucking time you have no idea where to go, and it's got an pretty damn cramped feel throughout the whole thing, despite the fact that you see some pretty impressive vistas.

And I'll tell you right now, die hard fans of the series are going to absolutely hate the multiplayer. The killstreaks are ridiculously out of place, and some of the weapons just have no place in a game like this.

Wait for Black Ops, or buy something else. We already know what Black Ops is gonna be, and Treyarch has more or less proven that they know how to handle the series. Wait for that instead.

Halo 4, the campaign is bloody awesome!

Btw, might be spoilers in my answer below.

Don't think we played the same Halo 4, me and a friend played it through on Heroic, took about 8 hours (which is normal single player time for us), sure some parts were linear and I'm not a big fan off some of the invisible walls 343 seems to like, but the parts where you're out in the open I wouldn't call them linear really, some big battlefields and such.

Knowing where to go isn't to hard if you listen to the objective when told and it is a darn sexy game.

And as a die hard fan, I like the multiplayer, sure, they've unfortunately added some parts from the newer nasty CoD games (which we all know hasn't been good since United Offensive) but I will survive, it is after all the single player story I am after, and that is where Halo 4 beats any CoD game by a landslide.

get Bastion, it is $20 on steam. Or TF2 which is free, or Spec Ops: The line, a military shooter Yahtzee likes!

You know...he was asking for a decision between two different games that he had already named.

Sigh, I feel like both series have started to really stagnate. I've played both extensively. I want new IP.

(Go get excited for Watch Dogs or something)

Halo 4 should be here today or tomorrow (had it shipped to me), and Black Ops 2 should arrive on the 13th-15th, so for me...both.

I am fortunate enough to be able to afford both, if I had to choose though, I would have chosen Halo 4 simply due to a new studio making a powerful franchise, and I Would like to see how it went.

I'm not planning on buying Blops 2 at all, and I am planning on eventually buying Halo 4, so I'm saying Halo 4.
