Now, as a general rule, I try not to complain about being a guy. I mean, I know I've got it good, sure sometimes I get tired of having to pretend that I didn't think Clannad was the most adorable show ever (and you can shut the hell up, it was, and I loved it) in order to preserve my masculinity, and occassionally I wish girls would ask me out for once, as opposed to having to do it the other way around... All that said, I also never have to give birth, ever, and I think that's more than worth the cost.

That said, if there was one thing about being a guy that I wish I did not have to deal with, it would be the burden of knowledge. Strike that... the burden of one specific piece of knowledge. As an occassional user of the men's room I am privy to the knowledge of just how many guys do not wash their hands after going to the bathroom... It drives me batshit insane.

Maybe it's just because I have the misfortune to live here in Oklahoma where everyone thinks they're a fucking cowboy, and they're not afraid of no stinkin' germs. But I am an OCD handwasher, and it drives me crazy how many guys just zip up and walk out of the bathroom without even giving the sink a passing thought. Even worse, they touch the doorknob on the way out of the bathroom, so now not only do I have to wash my hands, I also have to figure out creative ways to open the door without touching the door. Then the rest of the day I'm expected to run around shaking hands with people all willy nilly, but there's no gurantee they washed their hands. It's enough to drive a germaphobe to an early and probably stress induced grave.

PS: Just to make it interesting, I thought we'd go ahead and break the poll down by genders

My vote didn't register (girl: every time). But yeah, I hate the thought of people not washing their hands and hate seeing girls who just slosh their hands under cold water like it's Satan's Piss or something.

It is gross sometimes but maybe they didn't get their hands dirty, its possible, no?

Also, despite what I just wrote, I never touch anything in the bathroom with my bare hands. I use my shirt or paper towels to grab door knobs and flush by using my feet. You're not alone on not wanting to touch anything. And hand sanitizer has helped me deal with shaking stranger's hands.

After using the restroom I always wash, but I'm not one of those crazy motherfuckers that washes before they eat.

I have so many miscellaneus cuts and scratches (goddamn cat...) that if it's already on my hand it's already killed me and no amount of washing will stop that.

I always wash my hands after using the washroom. It just seems natural to me.

I wass my hands a lot as a general rule of thumb but unless I piss on myself I don't think touching my penis warrants washing my hands.

Haha at the 33% across the board as I post this.

I wash every time. It's just gross to think about touching such things that are used by more than one person and going to eat food... Yeah...

I wash my hands by habit every time after using the toilet. However i rarely use soap. I know that washing your hands without soap simply spreads germs around rather than killing any but i still don't really bother with soap. Habit is habit and unfortunately soap is not part of my habit.

Heh funny post :p

I'm very much not a germiphobe; I think that people who crank out the hand sanitizer every time their hands make contact with a surface are bloody crazy (you do know your immune system is only strengthened with continual minor contact with day to day germs, right?)

That being said, going to the bathroom necessitates a hand wash every time. If for no other reason, common curtosy. I heard a statistic once about what percentage of bathroom door handles were found to have traces of semen on them and....yeah.

I'm no more interested in second-hand contact with your junk than I am first-hand contact.

It doesn't take long, and can potentially protect ya from some nasty beasties. Although of course the chance of getting most nasty diseases/parasites aren't all that high. But it takes too little effort to wash your hands to bother to play this little lottery.

And the rewards aren't exactly great, anyways.

Although I'm not exactly a supporter of a completely sterile world. I think that with our medicine most less effective common problems can be easily taken care of if they develop into something you immune system can't easily handle. You don't want to be like those Quarians from Mass Effect.

I don't find unsanitariness gross. I just don't, and probably never will. However, I do wash my hands every time because I understand that its important for the health of myself and those around me.

I NEVER do it because I think it would be gross not to.

Every time. When I'm out I take hand gel with me because I have a massive phobia of touching things other people have.

Doctor's orders: Don't wash your hands every time you use the restroom.

I used to wash my hands really well in high school. I was also really well hydrated. My hands don't produce the same amount of moisture as your hands do. Long story short: my hands would bleed and physically hurt and the doctor told me to stop washing my hands so thoroughly.

If I'm taking a dump, yeah, always.
If I'm at the urinal though, I generally just avoid pissing on my hands and call it a day, unless I haven't washed them for awhile.

Doing it every single time just dries them out, especially with the crappy hand soap they have at the office.

Having been an aspiring chef at one point, and having a chef as a brother, I know the value of personal hygiene. I wash my hands after every bathroom visit that includes using the toilet, regardless of whether it's number one or two, and even wash my hands before dinner each night as well.

It really should be the norm.

People not washing their hands leaving the washroom are frankly incredibly disgusting.

One of my earliest memories of interacting with my dad was to stand there and say "Don't forget to wash your hands!" I'm pretty sure Mum was telling him off so I self-appointed to the position of Bathroom Monitor at age 2 lol.

It still drives me crazy. A friend never washes his hands, and I swear every time I use the bathroom at his house, I have to wash my hands, then open the door, then wash my hands again.

I'm not OCD and I'm aware urine is supposedly sterile, but REALLY. With all the things you touch during the day, if you find yourself near a bathroom, you may as well wash your damn hands! It's not that hard. Water, soap, water, DONE.

I'm a guy; every time.

I'm pretty OCD about it as well. But I make sure never to touch anything more than I have to in a public bathroom, often using my sleeve for doorknobs and the sink dials. And I use my shoe to press down the knob that flushes the toilet (if that disgusts you, too bad. I'm also not the only one who does this).
