I have an Elite. I really hope I get luck with the 360 and not have too many issues. I definitely play my PS3 more. When I bought my Xbox 360, I decided to go the super cheap route and get a used one from GameStop, which as you can imagine can be quite a gamble in terms of quality. Well, anyways, I brought the thing home, hooked it up, and low and behold the damn thing gave me an error screen from the start, which stopped showing after a few attempts at restarting the console. Flash forward to less than a month later, and the color becomes screwy while I'm playing a game. I try restarting the 360, but then it doesn't display a picture at all while still outputting sound, which is caused by the graphics chip frying itself to the point of being unusable.
Thankfully, it was less than a month after I bought it, so I was able to exchange that turd for another without using the extended warranty I bought with the first one. The second one I still have today, and it hasn't given me any trouble at all.
I also semi-bricked a Wii trying to downgrade the firmware (I selected the wrong firmware for my region, downgrading to a european firmware instead of a north american firmware), and then further screwed it up by trying to perform a system update which made the console think it was a European console, thus making it impossible to correct the problem. Thankfully, GameStop took it back and replaced it (with me simply claiming that the thing just stopped functioning properly), although this was just after the 30day warranty had expired making me have to buy another extended warranty.

I can't say that I play on my family's PS3 very much. But only because we don't have very many games for it. I plan on saving up for Guitar Hero or Rock Band on the PS3 though since it's hooked up to our larger tv.
I have a first-shipment 360. Got it when they first came out, and it was perfectly fine for years, while all my other friends were having problems. Got the RROD just before the 3 year warranty was over, sent it off, and got it back in a few days.
A few years later (yesterday) it crashed on me again, so I went out and bought an Arcade version. My old Xbox and I had a good run, and I'm going to miss the chrome CD tray.

I sent my 60GB to Sony to get fixed after the disc drive stopped reading Blu-rays. They gave me the option of getting a refurbished 60GB or a new 80GB (this was before the slim one came out). I went for the 60GB and it's been perfect ever since.auronvi said:
My brother was playing with a gamecube controller and yanked my Wii right off the shelf. It was really more of a hardware failure due to blunt force trauma.
My PC died on me just the other day. Fortunately it was an inexpensive machine and the expensive parts were not the ones that failed on me. I was able to buy a new computer for peanuts and put all my favorite parts into the new one.
My desktop PC luck has been bad. I've had a few that died from viruses, and others that died due to my dad getting irate about something it was doing and deciding best thing to do is to smash it.
But my laptop has had no trouble. I dual-booted Linux and XP, and XP never goes online. With Linux being immune to viruses, I just gotta make sure I don't screw it up myself.
I haven't had any console problems. Even my old Genesis still works fine. Only the ones I let my bro have went kaputz.
The processor and video card would be uneffected, so it was most likley somethign else that killed those. Probably a power surge or a faulty power supply.

You do realize viruses are just software, meaning they cannot do damage to anything besides software. They can oonly cause physical damage to a hard drive via forcing a shutdown that causes a headcrash. Even that is only a small chance.dududf said:

The only thing that's happened to me as far as a system failure is the RROD on my 360..but after a sound beating and letting it rest for a day it quickly came back to life.
