I still don't get the harlem shake thing, but I'll contribute the first video I encountered with this whole harlem shake thing.
Good ol' Dunkey.
This video was the first I'd heard of it too, and until this thread showed up I never looked into it. From what I've seen now... Yeah, I don't really get why it's funny. The original military one gave me a chuckle, but any random group of people suddenly dancing doesn't seem like something that'd be entertaining more than a couple of times.

But then I think VideoGameDunkey videos are funny, so I don't really have a right to say what is and isn't comical.

Wow I never realized how... fearsome (yeah lets go with that) the Norwegian army is. With those moves they could conquer a whole lunch room.

I find the whole fad to be pretty lame. Here's the only Harlem Shake video that will ever matter:

FreddieW actually made his own Harlem Shake version.
It's...
It exists...

Well this being my first time even hearing about at approx. 6:45 PM EST here is the time line.

6:45 watches first video (provided by OP0, I find it funny.

6:47 watches second video (Some marines), I chuckled a little bit.

6:50 Watches third third video (a compilation), I get two and a half minutes into the video and develop an intense hatred for it.

6:52 Now I feel that this, like all other memes, is the byproduct of some kind of mental deficiency on the parts of the creators (perhaps severe brain damage), and the music is complete shit. At this point my opinion of everyone involved is at rock bottom.

I have to admit this is a record for me. I have never developed such a strong hatred for anything so quick aside from the 'Dante's Inferno' video game. I'm thinking part of it has to do with the music. Oh well, have fun wearing it out internet.

Please note: part of this is me joking, so don't get uppity. However I do fucking hate this meme.

Just another fad, it'll blow over soon enough after it has it's fifteen minutes. Then someone will pick an obscure song that isn't very good and do something silly whilst it plays and it will be the 'greatest youtube sensation' of the week as people jump on the bandwagon to be cool before everyone else has done it. Repeat ad nauseum. Then again, I still think the 'needs more cowbell' thing is funny. Probably because it didn't spawn as many copycats as things these days do.

Aaah, back in the day. Oh shit! I'm old!

I really, really want to find it funny, because the concept of random people dancing is just...i dunno, it's that stupid kind of funny. But I hate how obnoxious the song gets after it says "do the Harlem Shake". The first half of the song feels like it's building up to an awesome techno breakdown, which would have made the videos a hell of a lot better. But instead it just ends up being people wasting their comedic dancing to the sound of static.

Maybe i'm thinking too much into it...

Oh, a thread full of people saying they "don't get" a new fad because it doesn't live up to their own personal choreographic standars, or because the music used is too mainstream bad.

Who would have guessed... and on the escapist of all places.

I just found these vids a few days ago. They gave me a chuckle alright.
[sarcasm]Yeah you're totally right we just don't get it, and it's totally not because the majority of people here have seen shit like this play out the exact same way over and over again, I.E. it gets over saturated in a fucking heartbeat as everyone does it.[/sarcasm]

Also I honestly think the music shit, because it's an uninspired, repetitive, techno piece of shit beat that only sounds good if you're on enough MDMA to down a horse. It is not because it's "Too mainstream". If you don't like the opinions of people around here (which are perfectly valid opinions, just like yours.) then ignore them. I vehemently despise this meme. You wanna know what I'm going to do? I'm going to ignore it! Now you try it... see that wasn't hard at all, and see how much happier you are?

Eh, I like it. Gives me a good chuckle.

It'll blow over by the end of the month, of course, but it's relatively entertaining for a one-and-done meme.

Gangnam Style was a perfectly legitimate thing to be a temporary cultural obsession. The Harlem shake is just stupid.

The only one worth anything would be the Slender Man one, otherwise nothing gained nothing lost.

Edit: Upon further reflection I think the reason why I like this one is the guy who started it ends up dead.

Oh. I skipped over the original one when I was browsing reddit. What the hell, it's entertaining.

But honestly, I don't get the craze. And nearly everyone I'm subbed to has either done the damn thing or their comments section are filled with "DO TEH HARLEM SHAKE!!!!!!!!!111111!!1!111!!!" So yeah, I kinda hate it at the moment.
What a great band by the way.

Found it entertaining at best the first time, then it's just a formula that's not really going to have anything specifically funny about it. As long as it doesn't stick around too long to the point where it's only funny because of what it is rather than the outlandishness of it (see: most memes), it won't annoy me.

Eh, I think it's pretty funny.
At least this version is:
But once it gets popular enough I'm going to dislike it. Not because of the hipster in me but just because I'll see it so many times to the point where I won't even like it anymore.
And a *little* bit because of the hipster in me.

Another stupid fad that's all over the internet and will be forgotten about within a month or two.

I didn't particularly care, but it's starting to irritate me as it's showing up everywhere.

I've only seen one somewhat redeemable video about Harlem Shake.

And if you ask me what I think about the whole fad, I'll say, "I don't get it."

It all just seems like a really stupid version of a flash mob dance.

I still don't get the terrorist part.

What do they want to do with the terrorists? Or are they saying that they are with the terrorists?

OT: The Slenderman one was the best one.

It hits the perfect sweet spot of effort vs WTFery. I really enjoy them. The bite-sized length is nice, too.

This exactly, plus I love how many ways it can be conjugated. I didn't really like the slenderman meme because it was sort of a one-note tune. Creepy tall guy, freaks people out. Okay. But this and grumpy cat can be redone in so many ways, the possibilities are endless. I love that in a meme.
