I know this has potential to turn into a microsoft hate thread, that`s not what I want. What I want is in what way has microsoft let you down, if any. They`ve let me down, but let's be honest, they've still done so many good things. Anyway, onto the reason for this topic. A couple days ago, I read the thread about the steam sale, I went to buy GTA IV for 8 bucks. After about 16 hours, it had downloaded and installed. I tried to play it, didn't work, re-tried, didn`t work again. I know this isn`t microsoft`s fault, I`m getting to it. I read on the internet that installing service pack 3 might help (P.S., I run XP). Seeing as I had tried for a day for a solution, to no avail, I tried this. I installed it with no problem, restarted my computer. Here's the juicy part. It asks me if I want to start in safe mode, I say no. It starts to go, then I get a flash of a blue screen. It restarts. It repeats this, no matter what option I select. I try boot disks, then realize, I have no floppy drive. I try boot cds, they didn`t work. I go on my laptop to figure out what`s going on. It turns out that because I have an intel processor it won`t recognize it, causing the boot loop. I look up solutions. All of which say go into safe mode... I can't... Safe my ass. It turns out, the post explaining the problem was from february of last year, when it was just a beta. What I have to ask is why the hell haven`t they fixed this problem after a year? I get an update, I don't expect it to make my comp unusable... This part is out of their control, but I was waiting to go into a comp store over the weekend. Everything was normal, saying they were open today. Nope. Makes me angry. Anyway, that's the end of my rant. Anyone who read this entire thing can have a hypothetical cookie.

So, has microsoft let you down like that recently?

And if you want to try and help with my problem... That'd be cool too... Please :'(

EDIT: And I forgot to mention, my xbox red ringed yesterday. But I still have one. Always knew having two would come in handy.

Ouch... I'd just call customer service. Hopefully you don't have anything illegal or uhh... embarrassing on it, in case they tell you to send them your computer.

And no, not really.

I think this will turn into a thread about the RRoD. Just watch. You should've just created a separate poll option for it.

Yes, just yesterday Microsoft screwed me. Well not me, but my boyfriend. His 2 day old wireless adapter for the 360 stopped working completely.

They screw me probably once every month. Bastards.

Yes, Arial disappeared from my computer less than an hour ago.
I'm glad to say I fixed it.

I bought Win Vista x64 from the It's Not Cheating website, tried installing, couldn't get it validated. MSFT help was useless, they said go to retailer, retailer said go to MSFT. I go back to the website a week or so later, they'd just put up a big sign saying "Update only, full version of Win Vista required for x64 version, XP Pro required for x32 version". So basically, my copy of Vista won't work as I don't have a x64 bit MSFT operating system installed. Laaaaame.

Still, it's the only thing that's happened to me so I still recommend their products. That and there's really no other OS to run if you're a serious gamer. =P

Onto your post. You said you didn't go into Safe Mode, and aren't now? Is it possible to boot into SM?

Assuming you've backed everything up, format and start again?

Or just take it into a computer shop.

I didn't go into safe mode the first time, but after that I did try it. No I didn't back anything up. I don't plan ahead. Or it's because I r teh stupeed. I'm going to take it to a shop, but don't know which one, seeing as the normal one was closed, but hopefully it's a quick fix.

Thanks for being the first one who tried to help.

I wouldn't say they've been doing any effing lately, but I sure am getting tired of my laptop having to update Windows Vista every time I turn the Goddamn thing on.

It's because a poor Asian child made it whilst being lashed. You can't expect the quality to be great.

my first Xbox will A) explode if I turn it on and B) is held together with duck tape and chicken wire. the tray is damn near welded shut, when it does open it won't play very many of my games, and will over heat if so much as a molecule of stuff is on it, but it is yet to red ring. but I have had a few downloads that where horribly butt fu... you get the idea.

If you can't safe mode.. Well, there's where most of the solutions are.
Do you have the original Windows Install disk? Most manufacturers don't include one nowadays.. If you do, or if you can get a copy, try booting from that and trying a repair. That should take it back to pre-SP3 state, or if you can get a copy of XP, same version of yours but with SP3, try doing a repair from that.

The problem here is that you've lost the processor driver, SP3 shouldn't touch any of your drivers, so the problem may be unrelated..

May be a silly question, but where did you get SP3 from? Random site on teh netz or MSFT?

Another idea I haven't tried but it should theoretically work, boot up from a Linux Live disk if possible, then running the "rollback to last restore point" feature. SP3 should create a restore point before installing, for just this reason.

lol @ having 2 Xboxes, that is the best solution to red rings I've heard so far.

Microsoft screws me every time I connect to Xbox Live. The fact that I had to buy a wireless adapter to the tune of 100 freaking dollars burns my ass to this very day. Most computers are wifi capable out of the box. The PS3 is wifi capable. Hell, even the Wii, the hardware underdog of this console generation, is better equipped. There is no excuse.

Only that the wireless adapter costs way to much for the 360. (The first one I heard the second one is going for 70 bucks right now).
