The core of war has not changed. That is why it is still war. It's a selfish act, full of violence and chaos that does more damage than good, and changes the course of history, however its face, its reasons, its methods, and its appearance have all changed. It's no longer about the issues that caused past battles. It's no longer fought the same way. It's no longer primarily country to country. It's no longer constrained by the same rules.

At the very center it is the same, but everything above that has shifted.

War used to be for the sake of conquering a lesser people and making a glorious empire that would stand the test of time. Now borders are drawn and we pretend to be civil about it from within the U.N. War is no longer for land or glory. It's all politics. You want something done? Bomb a country, throw the first punch, and eventually win. The ends do justify the means in this kind of warfare, from the desk of a fancy office.

It hasn't changed, its been around for millenia and we still recognize it as the same thing and call it the same name. Wheels started out as round rocks or peices of wood, todays wheels are made of plastic or alloys, but they are still wheels, they roll, the way we fight war is different, but until humans have been completley removed from the equation it still the same thing.

It's appearance has changed. Different weapons and such.

It's reasons. No. It's still resources and other such stuff.

I like Ron Pearlman's monologues much better than the ones written by Kojima so I am going to have to side with Fallout.

Until wars defination changes from Reall life deatmatch to Nuclear tennis, war will not change.

Actually, tis becoming more and more and more like a sport, especially with all the cameras and stuff.

Both are correct, but obviously in different ways. "War has never changed" is correct in that humans have always fought, and will always fight. Whether we are fighting each other, or for simply survival. "War has changed" is correct in that the way we fight has changed. Instead of spears and shields we now use Assault Rifles and Kevlar Vests.

remember the words of Edwin Starr

but if you really want to know
the only thing that has changed is how we kill the other person who disagrees.

Tools of war have changed, some aspects of war have changed. But the core mechanics remain the same. Killing others because our leaders aren't smart enough to realize once and for all that war is in the end completely pointless. Everyone dies anyway so why not live in piece for fuck sake!

"War, war never changes" - blatant reference.

Unless you are talking about technology, advancements and the obvious stuff.

But no if you are talking about the motives and reasons for going to war, and the outcomes of war.

I can say that war has changed and hasn't from both points of view:

The obvious reason like so many others that war has changed is because of the upgrades in technology and weaponry.

In the past, armies tended to stay in a line and shoot themselves with muskets and wait God knows how many awful seconds/minutes to reload. Now everything is automatic/robotized(spelling?) and the solution to end a war the fastest way possible is by bombing every "threat" posed by the opposing force.

War hasn't changed even with all the evolution that humanity has gone through until today, but it's core ideas remain the same as "C95J" said.

War never changes, only the way in which it is fought.
OT: Well, this. The only thing that has changed is the technology surrounding war.

No, it hasn't changed, my great grandpa was in WWII, my uncle was in Vietnam, and soon I'll be in afganistan, we are all doing the same thing, for the same thing. In my eyes, veterans are heros. War is not something that is going to die, we will always fight, for wrong or right, and when the call comes you must answer it.

War changes over the years as technology advances. 1000 years ago, we fought our battles with suits of armor and swords. Today, we fight it with unmanned aerial vehicles that can deliver an explosive payload within 3 meters of its intended target. But, it has not changed in the sense that we still fight to make sure the other side dies before we do.
