Mine broke last night. I've had it for a month or two, but it was used.

(BTW, anyone with advice for what to do with an un-warranted, red ringed 360, please PM me)

As amazing as it is to say, mine hasn't died yet. I got mine February or so of this year, but it's much older than that. I don't know how old, I got it from a guy off craigslist. Although the disk drive is funky, it's been that way the whole time I've had it.

Mine was made in 2005 and it got the RROD just this past April, Specificly, it was on sunday night the week after GTA 4 was released.

No, but I'm on my second.

It never actually failed, it just overheated too damn quickly because one of my brother's friends broke one of the fans. Good thing I went for the extended warranty (it was actually about a week from expiring).

Sorry, I misread the poll. I should have voted "No". My Xbox is a very early model - I got it used off Ebay, bought a cooling unit, and never looked back. It's survived falls, hot-swapping hard drives, being left out in the car, etc. with no ill effects.

If one of the fans is broken, it would brick in a matter of weeks, if not days, if not hours, if not minutes, if not seconds, if not milliseconds, if not nanoseconds, if not ticks.

Xbox = Dead? Me sad. I'm not sure when my 360 was made but I said before '07. Twice actually, it died. But the last one wasn't rrod. Disk tray got fucked.

I think I had better cross my fingers. My third party fan hasn't melted to it yet. And I have done a 14 hour stint on it back in my unemployed days.

Little worried about it, but I'm in England, so it is always cold. And I have the window open all year long, and the ceiling fan on. Keeps its nice and chilly in here most the time.

I think it helps that I dont smoke indoors, so the air is pretty clean. Stupid indoor rules of places and living.

Anyone in Nevada? Here thats still good for indoor smoking. Stop. Nearly ran into a rant on smoking then...

I've never got RROD but a few of my friends have. I love my 360 but still...making a console that fails half the time is such an epic fail.

As a hardcore gaming platform for "real" gamers, yes it has.
As a consumer grade electronic entertainment toy made to cater to the "drunken frat boy" demographic? complete success.

P.S. idea for a "lord of the rings" X-box game "the red ring of death"

Is it cold up on your high horse?

what? the x-box is not made for serious "gamer" types. it was made for a certain demographic. the young "Partying" male. it is simple and full of fun action games. but does not have the family/new gimmick appeal of the wii or the versatility of the PlayStation or PC. it is simple to set up, no long installs, no wires to trip over when in a party. it was made for that demographic, and it succeeded at what it sent out to do.

except for the red ring of death. but maybe micro$oft meant to do that, they did the same thing with windows ME (shudder) and now with Media Player 11...

my objection was with your use of "real" gamer.

I've been gaming for 20 years. If I'm not a real gamer, you're not an ass.

a person who would identify themselves as a gamer would not own an x-box and nothing else.
I am going to stop this branch in our conversation now. Just don't go there. Let's all play nice people.

P.S. How do you quote?

I own a PS2, a DS, a 360, and a PC, and seriously, who the hell do you think you are?

I'm really trying to be civil, so I guess I'll just leave this thread, but you all saw him

I picked up the Elite, which was the new version you mentioned, about a year ago now and I have had no problems with it at all. However my friend picked one up around the same time and his bricked on him a few months back, however with the warranty MS just sent him a new one, that strangely seems to run a lot more quietly.

I've been on the fence about getting a 360 precisely because I keep hearing too many horror stories of RROD and disk drive failure. Is it really that bad, or am I just hearing the sensationalism of a vocal few? It sounds like, from reading the few posts here, that if one want s to get one, the Elite system is the best choice to avoid spontaneous system suicide.
