Dear Concerned, you need to understand young consoles at that age need time to grow, expand. Everyone matures at a different rate, some months into their life, some years. That being said, ditch that fucker and just build a medium PC rig.

I take care of my 360 about as well as any other console I've had, leave it sitting on the desk, don't put liquids or food by it, don't throw shit near it.

I've had it for about 4 year now, basically a few months after the 360 came out, and it hasn't gotten the RROD yet. Besides, Microsoft sends you a new one anyway if you send yours in. And don't let anyone tell you "It takes them forever", I have a friend who had the RROD last year, sent it in, got it back in about 5 days, and has never had the ring since.

Although that thing can heat up my room like a *****, so I usually crack a window to let the heat out. I have no fan set next to it, and I've played that thing for nearly 16 hours straight a few times (ORANGE BOX FTW!). Its only overheated on me once.

It never actually failed, it just overheated too damn quickly because one of my brother's friends broke one of the fans.

If one of the fans is broken, it would brick in a matter of weeks, if not days, if not hours, if not minutes, if not seconds, if not milliseconds, if not nanoseconds, if not ticks.

If I'm not mistaken it has three fans. And I ran it for about a week at barely subnormal playing time. I don't think it would've bricked for a month, but that's beside the point. It was damn annoying having it overheat.

I'm on my second console now; my first one Red Ringed for Christmas '07. Yay. Still, the replacement arrived at my apartment before I got back from visiting family, just seven days after I'd called in for the coffin; and this one's just fine, I think it's even a bit faster than the old one especially now that I've slapped the 120GB drive on it.

what? the x-box is not made for serious "gamer" types. it was made for a certain demographic. the young "Partying" male. it is simple and full of fun action games. but does not have the family/new gimmick appeal of the wii or the versatility of the PlayStation or PC. it is simple to set up, no long installs, no wires to trip over when in a party. it was made for that demographic, and it succeeded at what it sent out to do.

except for the red ring of death. but maybe micro$oft meant to do that, they did the same thing with windows ME (shudder) and now with Media Player 11...

Mine is alright, cue furious knocking on wood. There's plenty you can do to prevent (or at least delay) the curse of the red ring, specifically: lay it flat, not vertical; keep the power supply away from the console, make sure the back of the console has plenty of ventilation because that's where the heat comes out, make sure the right hand side of the console (the bit where the USB ports are) has plenty of ventilation because that's where the cool air goes in...

...basically, use common sense and don't give it excessive punishment (maybe turn it off for 15-30 minutes every three or four hours, which is also doing your eyes a favour) and it'll survive a lot longer.

I got mine back in January 2006, when the second batch arrived at my store (I was one of the unlucky ones who was number 51 in an order size of 50 for the first batch in November) It ran fine for two and a half years and then the video card died. I was playing some game and the graphics went all pastelly, when I restarted it just presented me with a black screen, people online told me the videocard had died. As it wasn't the RROD it wasn't covered in the warenty, and as GTA4 was coming out two weeks after it died I chose to just buy an arcade as they had just come down in price. So I got a new 360 (with the supposedly more reliable chip), 5 arcade games (which I didn't have 4 of), a memory card (so I can take my profile to other people's houses) and a brand new warrenty (just in case).

EDIT: I also think the poll should have been made so you could have "No - made before September 2007" and "No - made after September 2007" so then you could see which Xboxes are most at risk.

Mine rrod'd three weeks ago, after i had just finished playing force unleashed. Sent it in, got it back after just over one week. In total I have been boxless for less than 2 weeks. So, frowns to Microsoft for having it break down on me. Kudos for the swift repair, and not giving any hassle whatsoever. And i got a month of Live extra.

I don't see why one would join a lawsuit if they do not make even the slightest fuss (granted: by now) about replacing defective units. I also don't see how a recall would have been better; it would probably make a lot of people even angrier. This whole thing is already costing them tons of money, a class-action suit appears to me as cheap opportunism and a chance of free money. And if it isn't, and you are really somehow damaged (either economically or emotionally) by not having access to your machine for 2 weeks, it should be taken away permanently for your own protection.

Mine has not broken and it is a release 360...one of the first made. Crosses fingers...But the fan on mine is really loud and spins really fast and I think that helps keep it cool. I also never put it on carpets or tower it and I clean it out constantly.

My first Red Ringed about 6 months after I bought it. This one, I'm told, blew a chip somewhere. I've been too lazy to have it repaired, but Fable 2 is coming out soon...

It's failed thrice, but nothing a quick reboot fixed. I still don't know what really happened to it during those three times.

For the record it's a well ventilated area, kept away from any vibrations and has only been dropped once from a height of about 1 foot. As a general rule technology and me work well together... unless it's a watch. Bloody things can never keep the time around me (digital only lasts two days longer than the standard week).

I think im one my forth console in 2 years, everyone of them has failed due to disc drive errors and i dont know why.
