MORE LIKE GAME SLUMP LOL

I used to love Game Grumps, but I feel like some of the magic has been lost lately. I used to watch every day, now I haven't seen one in, like, two weeks.

I don't know whether it's the games they're choosing or them, it just isn't as entertaining to me lately. They just seem kinda bored to me, like they're just punching the clock so to speak instead of just being two funny, high-energy guys having fun.

Maybe it's just me though. How do you feel?
Watch their new Sonic '06 videos (specifically, part 85, 86 & 87).

They are solid gold, and the best ones I have seen in a LOOONG time.

I never really could get into their brand of comedy to begin with, but I definitely see how the appeal could wear thin after a while, both for viewers and the video makers who pump out a frankly flabbergasting amount of videos.

i'm hoping egoraptor stops making game grumps so he can make his own videos and animations.

HOW LONG DO WE HAVE TO WAIT FOR SEQUELITIS FOR MGS 1 VS 2 WHY!

They're definitely still putting out funny stuff. The Sonic 06 video where they fought as Silver against Sonic was hilarious. I suppose its a saturation thing. They put out two vids a day, so it's easy for viewers to get very used to them and the shine to wear off. Hell, if Zero Punctuation was every day, that would feel less funny.

Plus, it's hard to be really funny, consistently, over the course of long games, when it's all improvised.

I don't watch let's play videos. I find watching other people play video games to be insanely boring. But my GF does and she obsesses over Game Grumps. More than she does the Yoggscast anymore which is saying something since I'm... pretty sure she'd leave me for Simon if she could...

They look the same. To me it looks like what happens with TV shows, people start saying "it's crap now" or "they ran out of ideas", but in reality usually it's the same shit... but you have been watching the same shit for months and got bored of it, take a break.
Oh, but of course why blame yourself when there's others to blame, right?

Yeah, I noticed it, too. I actually switched over to Two Best Friends and haven't really regretted it. Matt and Pat are hilarious, especially when Woolie shows up. I also find their voices to be less...grating then the Grumps'.

A few gags hit their mark, but on the whole the entire premise of Game Grumps is Arin and Jon messing around in vidyagaems because people apparently find that funny. I still get chuckles out of the "TENOUTTATEN!" joke from the Zombies Ate My Neighbours episodes, but that's about it.

Egoraptor, as a whole, tends to wildly oscillate between stuff like this nugget of brilliance:

<youtube=sXX5drqRD9s>

...and these... things. Whatever they are:

<youtube=lmAQhsBzAQ0>

<youtube=gscyv4kqM-s>

It's either really awesome observations on game and game culture in general or, you know "GLUH, ACTING STUPID RAKES IN VIEWS BY THE FUCKTON, HERPADERP".

Your Mileage May Vary.

I would have gone with "MOAR LIEK GRUMP SLIMP AMIRITE?!"

Frankly I want more Sequelitis from Egoraptor as I couldn't really get into Game Grumps...

Used to watch it a lot. Now I've come to realise this is what they do now... :(

John isn't a funny retro reviewer with a talking parrot any more, and Egoraptor isn't an animator any more.

I know they still both do those things John made a sapce ace review and Arin made poke awesome 2 (which was ok if a bit fucked up). But now they are primarily letsplayers, which I think sucks. I've never been a fan of lets plays why watch it when you can play it? and their jokes sort of devolve into noises, which can sometimes work but not all the time like they try and do.

The novelty has worn off. Gamegrumps needs to be a secondary thing for them not their primary youtube show.

There's a lot I don't like about it now, couple of examples:
- This game is badly made, because I didn't read the text that was on screen and now I'm stuck
- I know everything about this game from my childhood, but in fact don't know anything
- "Didn't we talk about this before on the show", you're repeating conversations that's a sign to slow down on videos
- Nothing is being said, need to burst into song

You could say it's the format with two people doing let's playish videos, but I watch best friends play videos on TheSw1tcher's channel and it's a lot more enjoyable. It doesn't ooze stupidity and loud noises when stuff doesn't happen in game, instead you'll get an anecdote or references to stuff.

The last game grumps I enjoyed was the one with Grant Kirkhope as a guest because he made me laugh more than them and he had interesting things to talk about.

Kinda feels like the fans are carrying the series more than the creators now with all the animations and artwork

I really liked Game Grumps at first. Lately though, I find Jon more often than not to be annoying and oblivious. Not just with the games, but his responses to Arin show that he often doesn't understand what Arin is saying when they actually do try to discuss something interesting. I still find Arin entertaining, but Jon tends to ruin it for me, which is weird because I only discovered Egoraptor through Game Grumps because I was subscribed to Jontron.

They have made me smile while I've been in a lot of pain waiting for an operation so I do have an affection for them. I think they need to concentrate a bit more of what they are playing though. They get off topic a lot.

I never saw the appeal of Let's Plays so I never watched them in the first Place.

I watched the first couple of videos but got immensely bored of listening to them laugh at their unfunny jokes for minutes at a time.
They got worse?

I was never into the GG videos, but they do have a tendency to go on on off-topic stuff.

My friend pointed out that there's a hilarious moment in Sonic 06 that other let's players made certain to point out, while GG did not.

In fact, earlier today I decided to give them another go. I searched through their more recent videos for a game I'm interested in (which is pretty rare now), and found that they started playing Bayonetta. Hooray, I thought. And within minutes, they're talking about irrelevant stuff and skipping all the cutscenes. Seriously, they skipped the intro cutscene for Bayonetta. Why would you do that? I dunno.
Yeah, the Bayonetta videos are some of their worst offenders. What struck me the most, though, was the tangential conversation they had about Metal Gear Rising, where this conversation took place:

Jon: "Yeah, I love Metal Gear Rising. It's so great."
Arin: "Yeah, me too. I always made a point of going back and doing the optional combat things because the combat was so enjoyable."
Jon: "Optional what?"
Arin: "Optional combat things. Sometimes you'd be going through an area, and Boris would pop up and say that there was this optional combat encounter you could do a little bit behind you if you wanted extra points and stuff."
Jon: "Oh, wow, I completely missed that. I must have just been mashing through it."

IF YOU LIKE THE GAME SO MUCH, WHY WOULD YOU MASH THROUGH ANY OF IT

The Grumps themselves are the same. It's the games they're playing that are getting worse.

You can tell the quality of their episodes is based on the games they play, since they've occasionally gotten into a slump in the past with certain games.
Likewise, you can see their grumpin' quality dramatically improve recently as they randomly play games they're really into (Shovel Knight, Pocky & Rocky, Castlevania, Strider, You Don't Know Jack).

Sonic '06 is still their best series overall, but they've become largely jaded to the game's overall badness, so they spend a lot of time not even paying much attention to the game. That's fine with me, TBH. I love podcasts of interesting geeks just rambling about interesting random stuff and telling stories, and that's basically what Game Grumps becomes at the times when the Grumps aren't paying attention to the games they're playing.
That said, when Sonic '06 inevitably DOES throw the Grumps a MASSIVE curveball, it's almost invariably the funniest shit in the world - like when they had to fight Sonic as Silver and Arin went powercrazy with revenge. That was a joke with a set up that came 87 episodes before the punchline. We didn't see it coming, the Grumps didn't see it coming, and it was TOTALLY worth it.
I think that basically validated the ENTIRE game.
Truly, it is a Biblical-scale pilgrimage and test of their gaming mettle.

My ONLY complaints regarding Game Grumps are:
- They ignore the game's explanations of things crucial to understanding how to proceed faaaar too often....and then blame the game for being bad at being obvious. I understand that Arin wishes every game was as good at teaching as MegaMan X, but that game's a masterpiece, and the majority of games simply AREN'T that well made.
- Jon is terrible at something so simple as NOT repeating the same two exact button presses over and over and over and over and over and over to no avail, when simply pressing any of the other 6 buttons on the controller would suddenly reveal a whole panoply of other powers to facilitate progress.
- They're running out of games that make for good episodes. They need to branch out more often from just NES and SNES games, but they kinda rely on people sending them games for that...

It seems they totally abandoned their usual work, which was really good, for this. So yeah. Great.
They're constantly insisting that isn't the case, but... I mean, Pokeawesome 2 and Sequalitis Zelda have been "coming out soon" since, what, August? And if we make it through summer, we'll have had ONE Jontron in the past YEAR.

Can't say I blame them though. I mean, if you could make roughly the same money by either writing, filming/animating, and editing a 20 minute video or hanging out with your best friend playing video games, what would you do?

I'd like it if they took the summer off. Cool down a bit, work on their other stuff, come back fresh in the fall.
Jontron put another video out like a month ago or so.

OT: Ehh, it's been about the same, overall. I usually watch it for one offs, I have trouble getting into their longer series'. Even though I did watch sonic 06 up until they beat the main campaign, and got bored with it after that.
