So many games give you sidekicks that it's impossible to care about or like at all. Has anyone played a game where this is not the case?

Final fantasy 8/10 if that counts, not really a sidekick though...

They're your party so not really sidekicks, more of compatriots or comrads really.

Alyx Vance is one of the only characters in games that has proven useful and provided an emotional connection that I havn't had any real control over.

Mass Effect, I loved all my party members. Also Alyx Vance in HL2 and Dogmeat and Faux from Fallout 3.

Mass effect all over. It's good stuff.

As for Alyx Vance....I really didn't care at all.

Shadow of the Colossus.

Agro.

When he falls off that crumbling ledge, I was horrified. I proceeded to kick that final colossus' ass.

I'm going straight for the rather cliche Alyx Vance. I know everyone else says it but this is the only game where I don't shoot my teamates for fun. (At least in story-mode).

Incidentally, on Halo 3, you gotta admit, it was fun killing your troops.

Yeah, Alyx Vance takes the cake for the best sidekick. I was nervous all the way through Episode 2 what would happen to her.

I always cared about looking after Alyx in HL2, but my real concern was saved for my companions in Baldur's Gate II, to the point that if they somehow died in a horrific manner I would pick up all of their belongings and have them resurrected at the nearest temple.

Two words. Jak. Daxter.

[/thread]

[restart_thread] Actually, Cortana as well. She's a pseudo-naked holographic hot chick, what's not worthwhile about that? [/restart_thread]

Various characters in KOTOR 1 and 2, especially the parts when they criticised my decisions, or began arguing with each other. That actually gave a feeling that they are not just generic lightside-darkside characters running around me to serve as my living shields.

As, unfortunately, I have yet to play anything by Valve due to my annoying lack of monies
I'll have to say Daxter or Clank
