I have always been a believer that grammar was made up by some guys who just loved rules so much, they made some up for writing, to make it more complex or something.

I thought it wasn't needed and if we aboloshed it, it wouldn't make much difference. Instead of a full stop, leave a line, who needs a coma? Most of the time you read to yourself so you don't need to stop to breathe and when we do read aloud I think we know when to stop for a breath.

But I have just read
Capitalization is the difference between "I had to help my uncle Jack off a horse.." and "I had to help my uncle jack off a horse.."
line that totally turned that on it's head.

The first time I just read it and got it and thought "EW", then I thought "wait, how did I get that? Both sentences are exactly the same but I understood it". It's only after looking closely (4 times!) I realized that capital which totally changed the sentence.

I am not doing a comedy poll option 'cos I think it defeats the point of a poll.

That's hilarious and yes I have proved myself wrong a few times. I just can't think of any examples at the moment.

Eh, several times when considering complicated science in my head. Like the time that I designed a faster than light communication system (not an actual working model, just the concept) and then five minutes later realised that I'd made a big and obvious flaw.

All the time. Various theories and potential solutions to problems are often put to the test by me and as a result I often correct myself as to whether it was the right/wrong solution :)

Constantly. Don't think there is a day that goes by that I don't want to go back to the day before and slap me in the head for believing something wrong. And yes, grammar does matter. Not to the severe degree that some people take it, but if there was no rules to a language, no one would know what the hell anybody was talking about.

I like the quoted text. Very funny. Yes, the usefulness of the rules of grammar and spelling probably aren't obvious to anyone who doesn't read constantly. Even to a lot of them the rules are overly complicated and difficult to remember. Just look at this crazy mashup of text I posted. It would make one of my English Comp. professors go insane if they hadn't gotten so tired of being disappointed that half of the assignments are "Just write about this and make sure you have a thesis. I'm not going to take points off for spelling or grammar unless you just don't deserve to be in this class, which is most of you."

OT: All the time. Everyone has, without exception. /thread

I heard a similar take on that joke, OP. Mainly used on people in WoW who refuse to talk properly.

"Let's eat, Grandma!"
"Let's eat Grandma!"
'Grammar saves lives. So fucking use it!'

In all seriousness, of course i prove myself wrong but i, like so many others, refuse to or will not admit to it until forced. No-one likes being proved wrong, not even by themselves.
