I notice it, but have no strong feeling either way. As long it's not over-exaggerated, I guess.

As with pretty much everything, it depends on the execution. If its good its good and if its bad its bad, as obvious as that sounds thats pretty much it.

Is it head bobbing or gun bobbing, though? Cos weapon viewmodel bobbing is a different thing to the actual camera (head) bobbing up and down. One affects the crosshair position, the other just affects what the animations are when you walk and such. Keeping that distinction in mind: I didn't think many games had full-on view bobbing.

I'm fine with head bobbing but I think it's pointless, weapon viewmodel bobbing is all you need to make it look like you're walking/running.

It never annoyed me until Arkham Citys Nightwing...its the only first person part of the game aiming with his wrist darts, but the bounce is ridiculous.
To be fair the wrist darts would make everything ridiculously easy if they were easy to aim with, since you can take down guards instantly with a headshot and they tend to stand still a lot.

I can see why people might find it infuriating though.
It's not infuriating as such it actually makes some people feel physically sick.

Take Bioshock. I got it for the PC during the Christmas Steam sale and only managed to play for 10 minutes. It's a good job I managed to play it on my console because it won't be being played on my PC again (no way to turn head bob off).

"Shaky screen" and too much head bob makes me feel ill after a short while and I have to turn off whatever i'm watching/playing. In some cases it puts me off watching/playing that thing altogether. My vision doesn't bob around when i'm walking around physically so why the hell would it when it's in a game?

Take those stupid as feth hand held camera films that keep coming out (Blair Witch and Cloverfield to name a couple) ... I can't watch them either.

True, but they are in limited supply and I think the head bounce is hilarious to the point of me thinking that ol' Dick Grayson has just took a hit from the Batbong.

Like everybody else seems to agree, head bobbing is good for immersion in small amounts but can get nauseating when it becomes a shakycam effect.
