Okay so I am currently trying to catch the second Roamer in Heart Gold Entei. I have already caught Raikou and done the set encounters and caught Suicune. I have done both without using my Masterball and I do not really want to use my masterball but it seems like its going to be the only way that I can catch Entei he is starting to bug me greatly since Ultra Balls and regular Pokeballs he just immediately breaks out of but Great balls he will tick a couple of times and break out or tick to the third and be "caught" but then break out just before it would register it as a caught Pokemon. I have a Haunter with Mean Look and Hypnosis and I did like 20 run ins with Entei to get his HP down to 1 with False Swipe.

So I am asking you guys what you think should I use my masterball and not wait to use it on one of the many other Legendary Pokemon in the game or should I use it on this evil incarnate known as Entei.

*Edit* I do not want to Glitch or use software to help in catching him I want this to be 100% Legit.

I believe Heavy Balls and Fast Balls have the highest chance of catching it, I'd give those a try before using up your master ball.

It takes a while. I managed to get Entei with ultra balls, while using the Masterball on Raikou.

I'd say use it, but you could get him the old fashioned (and insanity inducing) way. Plus if you get him the old fashioned way, you can use that master ball for the lvl 70 legendaries. If your in Heartgold, Lugie is one of them, while its Ho-oh for Soulsilver people.

I don't like the Masterball, and don't use it if I have the chance.

Put him to sleep and chuck Ultra Balls at him.

Best of luck.

Dusk Balls are better than Ultra Balls. Fast Balls are better than Dusk Balls. Heavy Balls actually have a -20 modifier because Entei weighs less than 451.5 lbs (he weighs about 436 as I recall?), so don't use those.

Quick Balls only work if you don't mind him running if it breaks. Has a 4x modifier, but so do Fast Balls (on Entei), and those can be used repeatedly with the modifier whereas Quick Ball is First turn only.

For comparison's sake: Fast Balls have 4x, Dusk Balls have 3.5x, Ultra Balls are only 2x.

Fast Balls/Quick Balls are objectively the best ball to use on Entei.

Level Balls could be the best (8x!) if you could have a level 160+ pokémon >_>

Quick ball him for the first turn.
If that doesn't work: Dusk balls (at night).

But quick balls (at full HP) will have a 1.569% chance of catching.
at 1hp in the first turn, quick balls have a 4.01% chance.
If it's asleep that jumps to 9.02%.

Yes, fast balls are prefferable but cannot be bought in shops.

So stock up on quick balls and prepare to get angry.

Also, I caught both entei and raikou on my first turn, with quick balls, at max hp.
Raikou on my first encounter =p

And if you do use your masterball, i sugest Latias.
But it's never needed.

EDIT: Oh , Fixed.
Not sure why I thought Five..
But thanks for pointing it out.

Other Legendaries in Heart Gold include

Latios/Latias(depending on Version)
Mewtwo
Moltres
Zapados
Articuno
Kyogre(Heart Gold)
Groudon(Soul Silver)
Rayquaza
Dialga, Palkia, Giratina (with and Event Pokemon)
Then Lugia or Ho-oh depending on the version you have

*Edit*
What color Apricot is a Quickball?

Quick Balls only get their extra modifier on turn 1 (Source [http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Quick_Ball#Quick_Ball])

Doesn't have one. You can buy them for $1000 each from outside the Safari zone iirc. Fast Balls are White.

I know, I was talking about lvl 70 legendaries. I only know Lugia/Ho-oh is depending on what version. Not sure if they changed up Mewtwo.

Can you not save the game in the location of Entei and if he breaks out of the ball, reload and try again?

That way you don't have to spend time tracking him down or buying more quick balls.

No, Entei roams: It runs around to random locations on the map and changes every time you save/load.

i never go with the masterball.

feels like the cowards way out and less satisfaction.
just keep at it, the longer it takes the sweeter the victory.

Already tried that he changes locations everytime you load the game.

FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Just keep at it, it's not worth using as Master Ball on, just save that for Mewtwo, like the game intended.

Well, firstly you want a pokemon like digglet with area trap to prevent it from running away. Then you need that move that will reduce it to 1hp. the rest is simple
