I'm 5'0" (measured by my boyfriend at 4'11" once, but I think, hope, he might have been taking the piss) and yes, it really matters. I am definitely labelled small by people at first glance- it's my defining feature and it really shouldn't be. I also find it harder to look mature and professional because people's first response is 'awh! she's cute!'

However, sometimes it's really nice to be small. It's an easy cuteness card (even if you've not worked out for a few months and you've got bad hair and you're dressed scruffy, you're still adorable) and you can get tall people to get you things. And I love cuddling my boyfriend, because he's 6'1". We look weird to other people, but I love how protective it feels.
This. I'm just scraping 6'3" (another cm or so would do it) and I love hugging my itty bitty cutie kitty of a girlfriend who stands at 5'2". Dunno what it is, but tall guys seem to have a larger preference of having much shorter girlfriends. Weird...

I find being tall sucks and wouldn't mind shaving off a couple inches. I'd hit my head less, I wouldn't have back problems, my posture would be tons better and overall I think my life would be much more enjoyable. Being tall does have its advantages, but more than not it tends to limit what you can effectively do, or force you to have work arounds that can be complicated or expensive. That, and I wouldn't have to put up with my stupid back being on firewith aches all the time! D=< (yes, I felt it needed mentioning again)

It is not a shallow culture thing, it is partially biology. Bigger means better in our simple primate minds because for most of our existence it really did matter. Only recently does it mean less. Modern culture may say it shouldn't matter but biology trumps that all the time.

(For the record I'm 5'7; not tall but I only really cared when I was a kid)

Really, it's not important to me except at work, generally. I'm sorry, but Starbucks shelves were not built for anyone shorter than 5'10" (and I stand 5'7").

Eh, I'm pretty short for a guy, I'm about 5'6, its not a huge problem for me, but if there was any way I could gain a few inches I would certinaly think about it, but really its just not that big of a deal.

And hey, I'm the funny one in my group of friends, all the more jokes to make about myself, gotta laugh at yourself if you're gonna laugh at other people.

I'm about 5'10'' - 5'11'', and it doesn't really matter much to me. It's a comfortable height. :D

Yeah, it is. Tall people are more successful at everything, and there are stats to back it up.

Then again, I'm 6'2", so I'm biased.
I'd love to see these. Honestly, please show me where you get these "facts".

First result on google, just as an example. There's tons more. Also, stats =/= facts.

Yes, seriously you could die on a rollercoaster, but I'm here to say random things.
But I'm fourteen and 6'1 (with big hands big feet and a huge nose) so I've gotten a few questions about my dong before... A few too many questions.

I'm 5'11". When I stand bolt upright and wear shoes, I can get to 6 feet even.

When I meet people to play pickup basketball, if the subject comes up I say I'm 6 feet tall. That's the only time it really matters.

(also, show me a girl shorter than 5'4 and I'll probably think she's the cutest thing on two feet. But that's not mission-critical; I've dated girls as tall as 6'1".)

I say im 6'2 6'3, but im pretty sure im taller. I get a lot of flack for being tall so I play it down a lot. First thing anyone comments on when they meet me, so it pisses me off.

Are you skinny? If so, get a pair of clown shoes, pick up a Carol Channing impersonation, and wow your friends with your Ryan Stiles-inspired improv comedy!

eh, i'm 15 and 5'6. out of the boys in my class, i'm one of the shortest. i get ripped on for my height a lot, but it doesn't really bother me that much. i wouldn't mind being taller though, and being 15 it'll probably happen, i just don't know by how much.

I don't think it is a big deal unless of course your job requires you to be a certain height or something.

As for people I know thought it meant a lot? I knew this one really small substitute teacher who made a big deal about her height before she began to teach us. We said nothing but she did this speech before class started.

I'm exactly 190cm tall, I say I'm 6ft 3 even though I'm like half a centimetre off. Also, height fluctuates during the day, so when I wake up I probably am 6ft 3.

I don't really see it as an advantage but its a pretty good height to be, not too tall or too short
agreed :) im 6'3 and a tiny bit over. its a good size (for me in my opinion) and to each their own :)
