I for one would like to see the page views for this site and see if it has gone up with the votes for Turbine. If there is evidence showing that they are corrupting the system by getting a bunch of their members to vote then I'm gonna be pissed.
I'm not sure how we are 'corrupting the system.' I can't tell you how many times the mods at this site have said they contacted all the developers involved to tell them this content was going on and that they were given full discresion as to what to do with that info.

Especially since the only game Turbine has chugged out was that LOTR MMO when compared to Valve's 9 exceptional games.
I empathize with your position, I really do. But you are just factually wrong here. Turbine has developed 3 seperate titles. They are undergoing some datacenter moves right now otherwise I would point you to their website.

We have LOTRO, probably Turbine's biggest MMO. It is quite literally Middle-Earth come to life. The game they have crafted is truly visually beautiful and the gameplay they have put together is fun. I'd recommend you give it a try! You may like it. The website is lotro.com and there is a 10 day free trial. Check out this video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rstCk0DRrU) to see some of the sites of LOTRO.

We have DDO, which is truly unique among MMORPGs. It is not your standard tank and spank MMO. It requires strategy and actual skill. You can dodge attacks by enemies (rare in an MMO) and use your groups to your particular best use. I haven't played it, but there are others around here who have who I am sure will be more than happy to share their experiences.

We also have Asheron's Call, which has been around for 10 years. Tell me that isn't a sucessful title?

Sometime in the next 24 hours, Turbine will finish their datacenter move. I would highly recommending checking out what they have to offer before you put them down. You may be pleasently surprised.
If I may ask, why does every other post out of you Turbine guys sound like an overenthusiastic advertising for Turbine games? I don't know about the rest of the escapists, but it annoys the heck out of me. I think escapists will be less hostile if you guys sound more like people interested in the community, and less like a school paper on 'why Turbine Roxxors'.

Alright. I apologise for that exaggeration, but I hope you understand where I'm coming from.
Well, your first comment tells all. One game? we have to continually advertise ourselves to explain the game. What if Half Life was never advert? But it was a good game and the only way is to spread word of mouth to other players. This is what is going on now. Nobody knows about us, but we have a very large playerbase.

I understand your position, believe me. I can't sympathise but I certainly can empathise. I can't speak for everyone from Turbine, but I think the reason we come off sounding like an advert is that we feel somewhat hounded on all sides by people who blatantly call the developer we support a pile of garbage. All we can do in response without escalating the situation is encourage the other person to actually give the game a try.

If it makes you feel better, you've made a believer out of me. Granted, I'm a huge supporter of Valve. I see Steam as a major advancement in the industry, I respect the company for all the help they give independent developers and if I'm lucky I'll be able to use that help myself someday. Still, without any prior knowledge of Turbine's existence I've seen a massive and loyal fan base come to support them. My feelings about that aside, Turbine at least has my respect for having this large and loyal of a following. After all, the respect and loyalty of this many people is something that has to be earned, and somehow Turbine has done enough to more than earn it. At some point, after this insanity is over, I may give one of their games a try to see for myself...

Honestly, I'm one of those people that had never heard of Turbine. So all my opinions about it are coming from my reaction to the fanbase which, as I have already said, can be a bit annoying. You yourself are doing a pretty good job of representing Turbine, but that's probably not enough to cover for the people who are just going to join, vote for Turbine, and then leave. It probably feels like a big middle finger to the Escapist community.

It should rise or fall based on it's own merits. Nuts to you, OP!
In any other situation I'd agree with you Undeed, but the contest already isn't "rising and falling" by it's own merits anyway. The data in what is essentially meant to be a "community census" is already horribly skewed by the vast influx of users registering and voting on behalf of Turbine. I'm not saying it's wrong, I'm not saying it's right. I'm not even going to judge if it's fair, it simply is. At this point trying to rally votes for Valve would be employing the same tactic Turbine is already using, and I can't fault someone for wanting to level what they perceive is an uneven playing field.

Anyway OP, if you really want Valve to take some manner of action my suggestion to you is to e-mail the man in charge himself, Mr. Gabe Newell. At the very least you can explain to him the contest here on The Escapist and make the suggestion and wait to see what happens. Beyond that I'm not promising anything.

Good luck,

You are entirely correct, I was simply feeling contrarian when I wrote that. But I have to say, this close to the end telling their minions to slow down won't have much of an effect. It's very difficult to get people to forget things on command, even more so fanboys and lackeys.

I don't like them enough to go that extra mile. I voted for them, but not motivated to do more.

I went into this competition thinking that this was a poll for the Escapist community to vote in, but it seems I was wrong. I'm still on this purist kick, so I'd say that VALVe fans shouldn't do it as to not sully their integrity.

I'll just consider second place to have won March Madness, simple as that.

To the OP: I don't care if you haven't played Turbine's games. That's fine. I donn't care if you voted for Valve. But Flaming and baiting and accusing people of cheat, then we get mad. Vote for what you like.

To say a company sucks without playing one of their games, is wrong also. I have played HL, and TEam Fortress, and hated both. I liked Portal alot. I have played DDO for three years so Turbine gets my vote. I have never once said Valve sucks or any of the sort. But I have to deal with alot of people saying that about Turbine.

Just stop the flame wars and general nastiness, please.
I never said Turbine sucks, I never said they were cheating; I just said they were calling for the community to vote, which is ok. I also said that I voted for VALVe because I loved their games and I've never played a Turbine game, so I voted for the developer familiar and awesome to me.

Also, In what sense asking people to support VALVe is "Flaming and baiting and accusing people of cheat"?

You are seriously taking it too personal.

This sentence sums up my entire feelings on the Turbine community. You all (Turbine community) take this thing way too personal and seem to view someone not liking your game/developer of choice as a person going out of their way to insult you.

It isn't just the Turbine community though, I think the Blizzard fans reacted in the same way. I think that MMO players are very protective over the developer that made the game they sink the most time into.

Anyway, Turbine players, do yourself a favour and chill. The Escapist community doesn't hate Turbine games, the Escapist community doesn't hate the Turbine community, the Escapist community doesn't want new users to go away. Please, stop saying that we hate you, it isn't the truth.

How did get 400 posts in ten days? defending my game. Maybe i should be clear. It wasn't YOU, or Valve in particular, but you as in the Escapist veterans here. If this doesn't mean everyone, but alot of your fellows have represented this site poorly.

Has for my comments, check out Turbine vs. anything threads on the forums. There is a reason they are that big.

Sorry, but with every person who is a voice of reason, like you, there are 10 others screaming that we suck. I dunno, after a week and 4 threads, it get harder and harder to calm down.

Do you have any evidence of these 'Veterans' representing this site poorly? You know, I've seen hundred of posts just like yours but not a single Veteran hating against Turbine.

In fact, I doubt any of the Veterans have taken a interest in the March Mayhem contest. I'm probably the oldest member who has posted in that thing except for a couple guys that came from Warcry and I have not insulted anyone.

Where does this 'Veterans are terrible people' thing come from? Why do you make it up?

EDIT:

I'd say most of those are people that joined to vote for March Mayhem, just for another developer. As I said before, I have not seen anybody that I would consider* a Veteran posting smack about Turbine.

*I consider a Veteran to be somebody who has been here for 6 months or had a very large sway such as being well known and liked.

If you think you made it up, fine. That is your opinion. I really do not want to over the threads at this time.
