Okay, those of you who know what a normal curve is (those of you who don't: its a bell curve), I want to trya little internet experiment. Using the option on this poll, lets try to make the results look as normally distributed as possible. That means we're using 7 polling options, and the sides should be equal. I'll start with one in option 4 (mean)

Oh, and just go crazy in the actual comments or whatever

EDIT: Mathematically, the lines for mean and individual standard deviations have no area. So really I guess the center option would actually be closer to like '-.5stdev - .5stdev'. But this simplifies it.

SECOND EDIT: As per request, start naming your option in the comments. Don't just go crazy

Why the hell would you want to do this?

This isn't some forum you can just post anything in you know. This is not Nam, there are rules. You need to have something more other than "Post whatever you want as long as you pick an option in the poll".

I feel as though I should point out that in order for it to develop something approaching a normal curve, you would require a higher probability for people to select mean over the 1stDev.

OT:mean

You know this will be impossible...right?
You mean mathematically or socially? Because yeah, I realize that there is no way this can actually achieve a normal curve mathematically, especially not with an option titled 'mean'. I just want to see a symmetric bell curve. But as for socially... yeah thats probably impossible too. But lets see.

Wheeee! CRAAAAAZEEEE!!!

Lombaxes Lombaxes Lombaxes Lombaxes Lombaxes Lombaxes.

And now, seriously. First, people - stop picking "mean", the middle option. I also picked it, and realized it's most certainly not a smartest option.

Second, OP. Make people say what they have picked. That'll give us more guidance than just randomly picking an option. Without any hints, it's like trying to snipe people by blind-firing, i.e. fundamentally impossible.

Hah, people don't want to be lower than the mean. It's odd, since it doesn't matter.

I still voted mean, because I'm an average kind of guy.

Well, yeah, both ways.

Socially for the reason that people will vote without actually reading any posts to see what the "curve" looks like before they vote.

Now, per request, something that is completely irrelevant to the topic

Well, the Escapist isn't let me View Results before voting (just refreshes the page for some reason), so this is pretty much a shot in the dark. I guess I'll go with mean then.

I have a theory that people are associating options above the mean in a more positive manner than something that is below the mean.

This is impossible without coordination. But we could get if if hundreds of peopel vote so mistakes aren't as obvious.
