Hello people.
I have to do some critical research on Viral Marketing and i need to do a questionnaire type of thing and if i use blogging or forums i get better marks SO...

Could you all tell me if you think that viral marketing is wrong or not? as in do you think it tricks you into passing something on? is it moral?

I'm looking into how Web 2.0 gives us freedom to create our own content and how viral marketing takes this power away from us by subliminally telling us to pass things on.

voting and comments are much appreciated.
Thanks.

BTW Bioshock 2!! :O

I like viral marketing. If I pass on a video, I do it because I believe it's genuinely good.

The internet needs more awesome videos, so any motivation behind them is cool for me.

What exactly do you mean, I've never seen an ad saying "Don't buy this game".
i mean it with anything really, for example you can see a weird video of something with a strange story and you'll pass it on and then he or she'll pass it on and so on, but you guys dont realise that you are secretly advertising a film or game without you knowing. With this in effect, do you think that this is wrong?

Well, it would be kind of hard to secretly advertise for something, it would have to be obvious for you to know what it is they want you to buy. But, there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with that. I mean, if you pass it on your consenting to it.

Thats just damn rude! being used to pass on adverts without your knowledge. if you consented, that would be another matter, but jumping from one host to another isn't just viral and rude... It's parasitic.

I'd like to refer anyone in advertising to Bill Hicks.

By the way, if anyone here is in advertising or marketing, kill yourself. Kill yourselves, seriously. You are the ruiner of all things good. Seriously, no, this is not a joke. "there's gonna be a joke coming..." There's no fucking joke coming, you are satan's spawn, filling the world with bile and garbage, you are fucked and you are fucking us, kill yourselves, it's the only way to save your fucking soul. Kill yourself, kill yourself now. Now, back to the show.

Viral advertising is advertising.
Advertising is the primary method of creating product awareness.
Increased product awareness results in increased sales.

You asked for my opinion and I gave it.
Understand your own thread before you post in it.

You really have no idea what to say do you, i was asking for an opinion not a blunt sentence which really doesnt help.

Viral marketing is completely different to normal advertising.

and you can try to be as clever as you want with your 'big' capitalism word and your advertising speech but you used the word fail. Such a shame.

for the record, and to help ( guess i should have done this before), I hate all kinds of advertising. It's sole purpose is to sell us crap we don't need. And the tactics they're resorting to nowadays to get stuff stuck in your head is, frankly, infuriating.

Your quoting skills are fail.
The preview button is there for a reason.
Such a shame that the world will be denied clarity in any attempt to decifer your utterly elegant to the point of artisitic skills with the English language. Oh wait. No it isn't.

Fail troll is fail.

P.S. Viral advertising is advertising.
Advertising is the primary method of creating product awareness.
Increased product awareness results in increased sales.
This is quite self explanatory.

I will contribute nothing further to this "discussion" as I don't like repeating myself verbatim.

Fail troll is fail.
