I've been reading a couple of threads that always contain the same question: what game didn't live up to its hype? Everyone keeps mentioning big titles that were really good in my opinion, such as Mirror's Edge, Grand Theft Auto IV, Far Cry 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Assassin's Creed and so on. People are complaining how much a game sucks while it's gaining very favorable reviews from the general videogame press.
Let's not hold your preferable genres into account and ask yourself: why are you disappointed about a very succesful game after playing it? Are your expectations too high? Were you expecting to ride in a bipedal tank and destroy an entire city while naked blondes come down from the sky with pink parachutes?
My conclusion: a lot of gamers are getting too pampered. They're always expecting that a lot of games that are getting much attention will set new milestones in the industry, which it doesn't always need to. My advice? Put all your expectations aside and just relax. You'd be surprised how much more you'll enjoy a good game. I never did and even though a game like Assassin's Creed didn't live up to its hype, I still really enjoyed it.
Any thoughts on this?
