Poll: HMV Effect

A Challenge to all the British Escapists out there, when you are next in HMV, offer any of the people you are with any object that is nearby (e.g. a CD, DVD, Game, Piece of paper, bottle etc) without saying a word and see if they take it from you. If they do then they are suffering from the bizzare HMV effect.

HMV is a store that sells CDs DVDs and Games. This is an odd thing i've noticed amongst my friends and i was wondering if others suffered from it.

I'm not British and I have no clue what an HMV is. Care to elaborate?

If you are american, you could try it in a similar store.

Not quite, you just offer them the item without talking and 9 times out of 10 they will just take it without thinking. I managed to get a friend to hold a stack of 15 CDs before he realised what i was doing

There's an HMV here in Canada too.
Well what exactly is the effect they just buy whatever the hell is there?
Because if they hold it maybe they think it's a recommendation from you or something.

They won't buy it, they'll just hold whatever you offer them and look confused until you walk away.

But i have noticed in HMV the thing above, you pick somethign up, everyone wants to see what youre looking at. Also, theres usally a follow the leader thign goign on where everyone follws one friend, thinking they know what they want to buy. HMV Conga!!
