Do I "support homosexuality"?

Odd phrasing. It sounds like I'd be fund-raising for a gay nightclub on every street.

I'm indifferent to homosexuality. I've flirted with bisexuality in the past, but it's not really my thing, as it turns out.

I support gay rights, certainly.

Surely its more a matter of not supporting discrimination, as opposed to supporting homosexuality? What is there to support about it? People don't choose, and its not right to discriminate against them for something so irrelevant.

I'm indifferent, I don't support it, because I think its wrong. But honestly, I couldn't care less. I'm certainly not going to persecute gay people, I treat them the same as anyone else.

Why do you think it's wrong? I'm just curious.

My religion, although personally I don't see what is wrong with it, I put my religion before my own agenda. However my religion doesn't say, "Hate homosexuals with a fiery passion." like most members of my denomination would have you believe. So I don't. Basically I'm completely fine with gay people I just wouldn't make a choice to be one myself.

So you actively choose to not think for yourself? Remarkable. And people don't choose, do we honestly need to go over the (lack of) logic regarding that?

I do think for myself, I wouldn't believe in something I knew nothing about, I know why my religion says its wrong, and I made my decision to follow that. Besides, why is it any of your concern, because I've made it pretty clear that I'm not going to go around shoving my religion down your collective throats.

You said yourself you don't see a problem with it, yet you will put forward that opinion it is "wrong" just because your religion says so. And I quote: "I put my religion before my own agenda." Its not even an agenda, you're just absorbing someone else's (several 1000 years old and completely irrelevant to today) opinion... just because.

And it bothers me because its that sort of stupidity that means we have to have threads about supporting homosexuality in the first place.

You do realize your taking the position of attacking my beliefs right? At this point I'd rather not keep typing religion and just put out there that I'm Christian. If Christianity is to be believed then everything God has said (and by extension everything in the Bible) is law. I personally don't see why He chose to make this particular thing wrong, but I do understand the reasoning for it. Also, don't go into "Well what if it is wrong?" your word is as good as mine and thats an entirely different topic.

I'm with the OP here in supporting homosexuality. Let the masses love whichever gender they chose so long as everyone involved is aware of all the implications and consenting. The only things I'd object to about it would be making moves, verbal or physical, on people who don't want it and make it clear.

Supporting, I guess, in that I don't really care what anyone's sexuality is. At all. It doesn't affect my interactions with them, so it makes no difference to me.

Our dog is either lesbian or bisexual looking at her behaviour towards the other ladydog that sometimes visits so I don't see why it should be any less natural in humans.

The only rational criticism of homosexuality I can think of is that homosexuals cannot produce children by mating with partners of the same gender as themselves but the same is true for people who mate with sterile people so there's hardly any moral argument to be made from that.

As I've said before there are many people who think Jesus was gay, and from other sources I've been told that the whole part of being gay was wrong was added much much later in Roman times when Christianity needed more followers (It's common belief that many Romans had openly gay relationships) and this was added to stop this and also encourage heterosexual relationships, so there would be more Christians.

Again, I have nothing against your religious beliefs and actually I wish more Christians took your view of not having a problem with gays.

Just for once can we have a poll about whether we support kissing on the mouth or oral sex or fingering. Are we still so obsessed with tallying up the precise numbers of people who support or have a problem with what is ultimately a silly and largely meaningless permutation within the incredibly diverse spectrum of human sexuality.

Sarpedon, thank you. Thank you so much for being supportive of gay and bisexual people. It means a huge amount to me, and probably even more so for the people you meet. But this thread is going to end with the same minority of people rearing their ugly heads to say blistering offensive things and then whining that they aren't being allowed to voice their 'opinion', which I do excessive credit by even describing in such terms.

Because, and note here I am attacking your beliefs, not your faith, I do not see how you can make that claim.

Before I dive into my little rant this isn't directed at anyone in particular.

For something to be good or bad (at least in my eyes) the actions it causes must either hinder or help lives or something in general. But sexuality is just a sexuality, the sky is blue and the grass green. Now peoples fear of homosexuality, thats a bad thing as that does nothing but hurt people just like most other irrational fears.

The sooner humanity gets over this concept the importance of being the same the better, we're all different get over it.

I support homosexuality because I have many friends that are gay and I know what kind of problems they face all the time. Also because I don't want to be the guy that looks back years from know, thinking to myself, "I can't believe I treated these people that way" or "I can't believe I just sat back wand watched this happen and didn't stand up for my friends". I guess it just seems like the right thing to do but I don't resent anybody who disagrees due to religious beliefs. It's really just the people who make a point of oppressing gays because they think gays are out to destroy our families. Last time I checked, there wasn't a band of gay bandits roaming the countryside, ruining our livelihoods.

Many of these debates boil down to "I disagree with (trickle down/destroying the atmosphere/your evaluation of the band's skills)," but it's not a matter of agree/disagree, it's a matter of right and wrong. Trickle down doesn't work, destroying the atmosphere is a bad idea and Led Zeppelin were damn talented regardless of how much you liked them.

So basically what you're saying is that your belief is right and the other dudes is wrong because you believe Led Zeppelin to be a good band. This "neutral" thing is there for a reason. People disagree on lots of things and most of the times those things are based on opinion. Just because you believe the band to be talented doesn't mean someone else will believe the same thing. If he disagrees with you in no way does it mean you're correct on your assumption. The fact of the matter is, it's all a matter of taste, at least when it comes to things as trivial as that. You view the world to much in a "black and white" manner. Try and work on that. There are loads of deviations from the norm.

Way to go, you missed the point. I didn't say they were good, in fact I don't like quite a few of their songs because they're too slow for my tastes. I said talented. Talented as in skilled. As in they play complicated rifts and have evidently put a lot of time and effort into their music. Good has nothing to do with it. Remember that part where I said they were talented "REGARDLESS OF HOW MUCH YOU LIKED THEM." It's like Bach or Leonardo De Vinci; You don't have to like it, but it took skill to do (note: Led Zeppelin is not at the level of these artists this is an analogy). Furthermore one post is not a profile for my entire world view; I don't view everything too much in black and white, stop talking about me like you know me. I mentioned a few topics that had concrete right and wrong and I in no way white washed that over every topic ever. I was making points about certain cases and certain things, there is plenty of places where neutrality/gray area is fine (see: abortion, US involvement in the Libyan rebellion, video game preferences, age of consent etc.) my point is that homosexuality is not one of those.

Meh its peoples choice, what right do we have to say they cant do what they want? its consenting sex between 2 adults and should be treated as such.

But in saying that I never feel comfortable around gay people, and always get really grossed out whenever I see my gay friends getting off, and mincing queens (for want of a better phrase) really annoy me.

There are many denominations of Christians and if history is any evidence than some of those have deviated far from the original, so this topic could have been interpreted in any number of ways throughout the years. The Bible doesn't have a whole lot on the subject, it basically says "Don't do it with the same sex." It doesn't even say "Don't have a close relationship with the same sex." Just as long as its the right kind of relationship. I think its fine people of the same sex like each other outside of Christianity. But if a homosexual I knew said they were going to become dedicated to Christianity than, as bad as it sounds, I would tell them your gonna have to fight that urge.

Your welcome, as I said before I was raised catholic, so despite not really following the religion any more, I still try to follow their moral views on things. I like to think I'm open minded to most peoples views and opinions... unless they are extremely rude or offensive. And I truly wish my parents were more like you, would have saved me a lot of problems when I was younger.

As it is, you have legs. Other people have no responsibility to cater to your irrational desire not to see certain things. Do what most gay people do when they're disgusted by heterosexual affection. Use those legs.

This is where you are wrong. It is not a choice, no more than you choosing to be straight.

I am against homosexuality. Part of the reason is because I am christian and in the Bible it clearly states that homosexuality is an abomination to the Lord.(in Leviticus)
I by no means hate gay people at all I see no reason for it at all, and God tells to only hate the sin but love the sinner
It also is definately is not gentic because I know a pair identical twins, one is gay and the other is not. If it was genetic they would BOTH be gay . Homosexuality is a choice, you chose to be gay.
