OT: The issue of sexuality- or more specifically, the acceptance of its variances- confuses me.

This isn't something you really can support or oppose: we're not talking about a sports team here, or some sort of philosophy or ideology. We're talking about a human trait that some have argued is as unchangeable as skin color.

Fact: Homosexual people exist.
Fact: You're not going to be able to 'make' them go away.
Fact: Aside from what they find sexually arousing, they are no different than everyone else.
Fact: if you can't handle even the existence of someone with different sexual preferences than yours, you have much larger issues (and probably plenty of other irrational prejudices).

Bottom line: if you have an issue with homosexuality, the issue is yours, not the homosexuals.

So... why are we even discussing this again?

The phrase isn't put that way but it is in one of the books connected with the bible (Sorry not majorly religious any more so don't know which one) but it does give details on how to beat your slaves... loosely saying that as long as they can walk within 3 days then it is fine and god doesn't care.
And in another book it says that god actively encourages us to take slaves... the full quote has been posted else were in the thread.

Well, I googled it, and I'll have to admit, there are some bible versions where 'inch of his life' could be extrapolated from it.

Honestly I don't know the full quotes myself, I just remember the general ideas from jokes and arguments I had with friends shortly after I gave up my faith... as a former catholic I will admit there are a lot of things in the bible and other books that people conventionally ignore as it doesn't fit their views of the religion.
But I'm glad to see you did your own research and are open to others arguments

I'm a lesbian, but i'm mostly indifferent to homosexuality.

I don't partake in any of the LGBT community events or activities, I don't wear my sexual preference on my sleeve, and the only reason i've ever been intrested in if someone was gay or not was when I wanted to sleep with/date them.

I'm just a woman who likes other women, it's not a big deal.

I support it, despite being a straight, semi-christian guy who's lived his whole life in a state that's for the most part conservative. Setting aside all the other reasons I could cite, the one that matters most to me is that sexual orientation pertains to the individual. As long as you're not going around raping people, it shouldn't make a difference whether you like guys, girls, or both. It's your prerogative, and no individual, or political, religious, or scientific organization should be allowed to ***** at you because of it.

Fun fact: A year or two ago I would've put myself in the indifferent category, not because I didn't support homosexuality, but because I didn't want to waste my energy on something that at the end of the day didn't affect me. But one day I got sick of listening to certain people around me blather on and on about how awful homosexuality was,and how it was destroying the world and blah blah blah, that I finally vocalized my thoughts on the subject so I could explain to them why they needed to shut up and stop being such hate-mongering pricks.

I'm indifferent to homosexuality. I'm not going to get into a rage about it's existence but I'm also not going to strap on the rainbow clothes in it's support. I mean, there's nothing you can do about it one way or another so why worry? Let gays be as gay as they want to. I don't necessarily want them displaying it like the flamboyant peacock the media has them out to be, like how heterosexual excessive PDAs draw the ire of quite a few.

Besides, my favourite anime is Kannazuki No Miko so I'd be a hypocrite to say anything different now wouldn't I?

What are you talking about? The last thing we need is more people in the world. I'd say we have enough problems providing the entire world with food.

Btw, the fact that homosexuals can't have children is the only thing I'm kinda jealous of. Kids are just the worst kind of people.

Ok, your first statement is just... Well, stupid. But I guess you would have a point with the rest of the post IF there would be a downside of supporting homosexuals. I can support someone even if I don't share their sexual interests. If I can make someone feel better about their sexuality just by pressing Support or telling them that I accept them for who they are, I am more that willing to help.

I think that we should be able to do what we want to do without fear of being judged or mocked whether you choose to be homosexual, lesbian etc. But that is just me imagining we live in a perfect world

I support it to a certain extent as long as the two people who are involved in the relationship are happy with it and neither of them are being forced in to it. whether it be a homosexual, lesbian or for lack of a better word "traditional" couple.

In my opinion the religon you follow (If you follow one) or the family you have shouldnt need to factor or try and influence the decision just as long as the the two people involved in the relationship are mature enough to make a conscious decision about what they want to do.

I think it's possible to take the 'anti-homosexual' view without getting banned, provided that you were thoughtful and still considerate of other people's opinions.

But I'll grant you that it would be a very thin line you would be walking, and not one that I would want to walk personally. But I have faith that the mods here at the Escapist aren't going to just have a knee-jerk reaction to it and ban you out of hand.

Good idea just saying "etc." According to my college's Pride organization, the full acronym is "LGBTTPPOIQAA." I know people who say the WHOLE THING EVERY TIME.

I am fully in support of gay rights. I am a heterosexual man, and I enjoy the right to love women. Denying anyone else the right to love who they want flies in the face of everything I feel is important (freedom, justice, harmony). Anyone who is "against" homosexuality is just a bigot, no different than a racist person, and not worth getting worked up over.

Plus, I'm a Necrophiliac, so I'm not in a position to judge ANYONE.

As long as they are happy and not harming anyone, then someone can be free to be anything they want to be. If you are homosexual then I am perfectly fine with it, as long as you are happy. I will judge you on the way you treat people however. If you are unpleasant, then it doesn't matter if you are straight, gay, bisexual, or whatever, then I will give you a wide berth.

Personally I don't believe that it is genetic or whatever. There must be some psychological trigger to it, and when something is psychological you can never be 100% certain that is voluntary or not. I mean, in families with multiple boys, the younger boys are statistically more likely to turn out homosexual, so I very much doubt it's genetic, and frankly I wouldn't see the point in an allele which made it far less likely for the carrier to reproduce or why it's so common. However, I see no reason why homosexual thoughts or acts should be illegal because they do no harm to anyone else and people should have the choice to do these things if they want to. I am indifferent. I just don't fully believe that people have no control over it or that it is wrong.

About the "younger boys are more likely to be gay" thing. Scientists believe it's because the mother's body builds up a tolerance to the testosterone in the baby after a child and keeps resisting it, and thus the lack of testosterone in the baby may lead to a higher likely hood of homosexuality. It's just a theory, of course, but it makes sense. Sorry if someone replied to you already, but I didn't read through every reply, lazy bum that I am.

Anyway, on topic, I'm bi so I'm all for it.

Well I guess I support homosexuality. It's not like I support it over heterosexuality, so to me support and neutral are the same thing (live and let live seems to be the same as support in this case).

Now to me that's just indifference, you are making minimal effort on your part and a couple of clicks wouldn't boost my feelings if I were gay.
For me actual support is raring up whenever someone even mentions the subject, taking time from your life to try and boost another persons, which I'm sure is very noble and all that, but there's more pressing matters in my life than where Person A puts Genital B.
