The poll is unrelated to this topic

Today in my English class we talked about something called ho'oponopono. Apperently, it's an ancient Hawaiian healing technique used on the criminally insane. The most famous story is about a therapist who cured almost an entire mental word without eve seeing a patient. The article is below. The main thing he says to do is ths: Anything in your life, you are responsible for. If it is in your life, it happened because of you. By realizing this, and bettering yourself, you can help others.

A bit of a stretch, I know. I honestly don't know if it works, but whats your opinion?

I know this isn't the most reliable source, but I have an assload of homework right now and it was the same we saw in class. If you want a better one I'll search the internet.

So if I shot you in the face, it would be your fault?
Cool.
I said the same thing in class... But then we went over the "True meaning of responsibility."
Which is the ability to respond. I love my English class...

I don't about this technique, but I wouldn't say everything in your life is your responsibility or fault.

For example, say I'm sitting in my living room and an extremely drunk individual plows through my wall and paralyzes me from the neck down. Now I can't believe there would be anyone out there that would assign blame to me.

Or, it was the Jewish peoples fault that they we're in the Holocaust? Really?
Sounds like that theory needs a bit of work.

I call bull on this theory. There are several things that happen in ones life that they simply have no control over. It's nearly impossible to have complete control over your life, and even if you do, things will go wrong.

Obviously, some situations where one might be shot in the face could have been avoided.

So it's like karma? Or am I way off?
I wouldn't say WAY off, but theres a fine line. It's more like knowing that you have the ability to change something. I think, I don't get it 100% either. I think it's one of those things everyone sees differently

No one can have complete control over everything in their lives. There are always things that we can not stop from happening or cannot make happen. As for this whole "it's your fault" thing what if I'm born with a genetic disease or are born blind or deaf etc. How can this be said to be my fault? What if I'm driving home as a passenger in a car when a drunk driver plows into us? You're going to blame me saying "well maybe you shouldn't have been in the car." There are far to many holes in this theory.

It's an interesting shamanistic theory, but should not be taken too literally. Not everything is your fault, but I think the main point of this is that everything can be improved by you if you take responsibility and try to heal yourself spiritually. A better you is a better world, I guess.
EDIT LIKE A BOSS: Apparently, the practicioner that achieved these results in the mental hospital is not a traditional practicioner of ho'oponopono. The original method called for a gathering of families to incite forgiveness for past sins that cause hardship (according to wikipedia) and were often performed by traditional shamans. He is practicing a new version of this old art.

Not when you simply happened to be walking down the street and I decide I think you deserve to be shot in the face.
