Agreed. My father in law used to love the show, but it's getting a bit.. er.. now. I also disagree with your ending because, like another poster said, it would seem like it was all about Thirteen. I don't think a literal death is necessary for the series to end, but a metaphorical one will likely be present anyway.

Also, to anyone who thinks, don't like it? don't watch.. It's not that I don't like it. I very much enjoy House and his character which, at the time of the first episode, was so new and interesting. Many fans have fallen in love with the series so it's hard to see it forcing itself to go on, getting more and more crap with every episode.

The best stories deserve the best endings, and rarely get them. How many times have you finished a series of novels, or a video game, only to receive an extremely unsatisfactory or under developed ending that left a bitter taste in your mouth?

We don't want that for House!

I think this is actually the final season. I agree, though. I love the show, but it NEEDS to end. Hell, I would have been ok with it ending when House ended up in the asylum. Sad, bitter, but fitting end to the series.

I've indeed heard that this is the final season. However, since the writers have not commented on this yet, I'm not too sure about this, but we'll see.

EDIT: Also, I'm not a big fan of your ending (it shouldn't about anyone but House, and that would make too much of it focused on Thirteen), but at the moment I can't think of an ending myself.

It might indeed by focused on Thirteen a bit too much. I might be a bit biased, because I think she's the most interesting character in the show at the moment. House is just the same rehashed person and the others are just becoming caricatures or real persons. She's the only one which still has some real humanity about her.

I disagree with your point. While the individual episodes are indeed separate stories, but there is a clear metaplot, even an overarching one involving all the other metaplots.

What kind of bullshit logic is that? I love the show, I adore it, but I feel it should end because the character needs closure before he gets stale. It wouldn't be win-win, because we who think the show should end would be left with nothing to ponder but the fact that there is still stuff going on and House never got the ending it deserved.

There are very few shows I enjoy these days, a lot are aimed at morons (Jersey shore for example) so when a great one like house, with an amazing actor like Hugh comes along, I want it to have about 20 seasons!

Few shows, movies... anything really, knows where to stop before the title becomes a zombie. Everything devolves into the same jokes, the same routines, the same plot twists, and while some of the titles work (Garfield has been running for 30-some years and I still think it's funny) the vast majority suffer for it. What's worse is when a series that's grounded in reality (House MD, for example) is forced to become gradually more and more fantastic with its problems and issues, to the point of jumping the shark, leading to a probable (about 2/3 chance, typically) of ending in a crash&burn.
Such is the case with House MD. I don't care how they do it, but this show is too great to be respectfully milked for years on end. It must end gracefully, while it still has enough dignity to HAVE grace.

Too much of a good thing is a bad thing. They can't keep up the show's excellent writing for 20 seasons. That's ridiculous. Beyond ridiculous. Hell, the show's focus already shifted. It no longer focuses on the medical side and now focuses more on the personal drama of the characters. It isn't terrible, but it shows that the show can only go on for so long.

I'd rather see it end before it gets terrible. Great as it is, the show can already be repetitive. I don't want to see a near remake of an older episode some three seasons down the line.

House was about the cases and how the views/opinions of the people involved in the case affected House and his Team. This is no longer the case. And hasn't been since around Mid-Season 4.

Seasons 1-3 really did show how ethics, opinions and beliefs affect the way people look at things and the way they react. And how their medicine is practised. But since Hiring the 2nd team, it's never been about the cases which it should have always been about, but Houses next stupid idea and the next thing he does to piss off Wilson/Cuddy/Foreman.

The whole of Season 5 never focused on a single case, instead just on House choosing what to do next, the Cases were just put in to add as fodder to extend to the 45 minutes run time. And Season 6 was just as bad and I honestly stopped watching Mid-Season 7 when it just wasn't as good, picked up my Season 2/3 boxset and sat and watched that to keep me entertained.

True. However, the 'House formula' is getting stale rather fast. 1: Introduce patient, 2: diagnosis, 3: diagnosis debunked. Then repeat step 2 and 3 until somewhere in the region of five minutes before the end of the episode, in which they get the diagnosis right because of some magical insight which House had by talking to someone about something unrelated. In between these steps, add House being quirky and demeaning people. It's been stale for a while now, but the meta-stories are still interesting enough for me to keep watching it.

We could turn this argument around and it'd still be just as viable.

It's more like saying: "Hrm. This game mechanic is becoming rather boring. I still like the story, but unless the mechanics change, I will not be able to play this game for much longer. And that would be a shame, because, as I mentioned, I really like the story.

The series started going downhill ever since they shifted focus from the actual medical cases to the characters. I liked the original format from seasons 1-3, maybe 4. Build the characters in the background, place the case in the foreground. Now it's just a notch above a soap opera.

Either find a way to revert to the original format (and that shouldn't even be too hard to write) or end it before it really goes the way of The Simpsons.

Personally, although I'm quite enjoying the new Prison arc of House, I think it should have ended after Season 3. After season 2, I found that the quality was going downhill for the majority of episodes. While season 3 was pretty awesome, season 4 and onwards had more meh episodes than actual good episodes. If the fourth season was crescendo-ing towards an epic ending I think that would have been perfect.
