Actually, I was just talking to my husband about this the other day. He was given a dollar-coin when he was out-and-about and he set it on the table while I was drinking my tea and reading the paper. We stared at it like it was an alien life form. I picked it up cautiously, turned it around, and was pretty happy about it for some weird reason. lol Also, I've always liked coins better then paper money, even though I still use it.
Then again, I only carry a bank card, my I.D., my Zoo Pass, two twenties, and a dollar in quarters, and chapstick in my purse. Well technically it's all in a clutch-bag, that is IN my purse. (BAGCEPTION!) So it wouldn't really be a bother to carry some coins around with me. Really, if given the option, that's probably all I'd end up using.
So, sure, I'd use them if they were more commonplace. (I mean, I'm not pleading for them, but I'd use them). Seems fairly convenient actually. Probably will use one if I ever get my hands on another, but so far, no luck.
