It depends on the children. There are a lot of cool kids out there and a lot of spoiled brats too. Its a lot similar with the way i relate to adults: i dont generalize.

I don't mind kids. I have no experience with them and don't have any involvement with them in my life, so they're not really something I think about too often.
I find the thought of having kids is a terrible thought, and I have no desire to raise a family. No problem with other peoples' kids, for the most part.
No, I take that back. I always feel slightly sick when I'm at out at a restaurant/public place and there's lots of little kids around me. It's probably a germ thing.

Small children I generally hate until one of theme is legitimately awesome, once they hit 11 or 12 I'll start being less biased.
I don't know what it is about toddlers, but some of them look disturbingly football-esque. It's all I can do to resist punting them. Hasn't come up in a while, but damn do some of them make me nervous for that reason...
Best story I've heard about an unruly child comes from notalwaysright.com (I think) Basically, a grocery store employee was doing his own thing, when a small child runs up and bites him. The area bleeds, the man starts screaming, and his friend joins in, words like "oh god, oh god", and "maybe he didn't get it". The mother takes notice. She says "you have no right to yell at my child." He replies, completely deadpan, "you don't understand... I have HIV." The woman bursts into tears, the child follows suit, and she leaves the store.

I don't really hate children overall, but god-dammit I don't want them around me.
Every time I'm around children, my stuff end up either sticky or missing.
And since most people I meet in my apartment complex essentially just act like foul-mouthed, promiscuous, binge-drinking children, it only furthers them from endearment in my mind.

Wait Wait Wait Wait hold up one second, how is it selfish to have kids when for all animals and organisms their main purpose in life is to continue on their species by breeding. True you may not want kids, but eventually you still have the urge and desire to propagate your species to make sure it keeps going. Unless you really do want to give the middle finger to nature and biology.
That said I don't hate kids but I don't love them either, as of now I don't want any but I'd imagine that would most likely change when/if I get married. :/
Edit: Of course my above argument doesn't factor into the account of Over Population which is becoming an increasingly obvious problem in the world, but my point about the overall biological goal of wanting continue your species still stands.

As for children well for me I've never seen that big of a difference between them and adults for these reasons.
1. They like to complain. Sure the content is pretty much always different, but overall you're ussually going to hear alot of complaining from both sides.
2. Both groups are no where near as smart as they say they are. Seriously kids think they know everything, but at the end of the day don't most adults do the same thing.
3. Both smell. Seriously guys take a bath.
