I like it. It's different from the art channels that only let you post images, since at least this way, you can still keep credit for your work.

The complete lack of standards and how open to registration it is makes it a real bag of mixed nuts. Some of the stuff there is brilliant, but quite often it gets buried beneath mountains of slush and nonsense. I suppose it all depends on how much you're willing to go digging through garbage in search of gems.
Don't much like how corporate its administrators are becoming, though. It's honestly starting to get annoying.

I'll tell you what I don't like about it, its got so little art. I mean Art with a capital "A" and probably a good dose of phlegm but let me illustrate my point, only yesterday I was browsing around in drawing and photography and after like 3 hours I realised that the content of deviantart can be summed up as follows:
70% Sex
15% Cheap shots and lame unoriginality
14.9% absolute rubbish
0.1% inspired Art
GOD I am so fed-up with our society being so super saturated with sex, its pathetic.
Don't get me wrong I'm not a prude but there is just so much more to life and to art than damn sex.
Edit: despite the above I still keep going back and sifting though the sex and rubbish to find those all too rare gems... There is some brilliant art buried in there.

DeviantArt is mediocre. On one hand you have brilliant artists who draw pictures like http://mikelopez.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d1pvft7 (yes, that is pencil).
On the other hand, you have those guys who draw like ten year olds on MS paint and upload it.
On the third hand, you have the nude "art," some of which is actually art, but some of it belongs on... other sites that are solely for adult pictues/hentai.

I've never used it, I rarely visit, and I doubt that will change. I'm just indifferent towards it.
It's good because you can find a picture of anything you can imagine on there.

I've found some great wallpapers there, just had to sift through a lot of crap, porn, and atrocities against mankind first.

It's...different. In between the laughably bad doodles and a terrifying overuse of rule 34, there are some great works of art. As far as I've seen, it also has some of the most well-behaved commenters.
