As of late, I've been reading up on the meta-game aspect of Pokemon that I hadn't considered before. Prior to now, I'd more or less lost interest in the Pokemon franchise. I mean, sure White felt a bit different, but at a certain point the novelty wore off and I stopped playing. Discovering the in-depth mechanics, how they influence the game, and how I, in turn, can influence certain variables has really rekindled my interest in the franchise.

So, my question is, how do you play Pokemon? Do you concern yourself with the distribution of effort values and finding just the right individual values, or do you prefer to simply enjoy the game on a basic level? Which in-depth mechanics, if any, do you exploit?

I take my pokemon dead, please.

Really, though, I love annoyers. (And a lot of ghosts happen to be such things, especially earlier on. >.>) Paralasys, confusion, flinching... Anything that spices things up a bit and anything that gives pokemon with "bad" stats a fighting chance.
And I'm too lazy to do all those EVs and breeding, so its the quickest way to make things a bit more interesting.

Because the same thirty pokemon gets damn boring after a while.

Yes I do. Because I play it online and it is worth it. 5th gen is by far the best.

Riiight..the mechanics. IV and EV training and the Bracer breeding tactics.

EV training is really only arduous if one attempts to do so prior to having sufficient in-game funds.

I realize that a lot of people mock them, but I've always been partial to grass-type Pokemon. Those and bears, but there are so few :<

I don't really concern myself with EVs or IVs. I mean, I have nothing against people who play pokemon with those in mind, but thats just not for me. I simply play to play. Find a pokemon thats cool looking/has a nice type advantage/more than likely evolves/a type that I don't really have yet for a solid team, and I just get it.

As for mechanics I exploit? Probably paralysis. Nothing ruins a day more than finding out all you need is one more attack to win the battle, but can't move because of paralysis. However, back when Platinum came out, I finally learned about giving Pokemon different types of moves that aren't associated with that pokemon. For example, Giving Lucario who is a Steel/Fighting type the move Dragon Pulse, which is a dragon type. Or giving Infernape, a Fire/Fighting type, the move Calm Mind, a Psychic type move that raises its Special Attack. Sure I'm a little late to the party, but finally realizing that made me really giddy!

Fried on a stick of course. It's not my fault they look delisous. Most of them look like they escaped from a Radioactive Lucky Charms Box.

That's how I felt when I realized that Pokemon didn't need to be from the same "species" for breeding purposes. Makes things much more convenient, especially with respect to Pokemon that I can only acquire via trading.

Pokemon nachos with pikachu sauce. MMMMMM, electric.

I like it simple, one on one battles.(Double battles are fine. Triple battles, you're pushing it.)
No convoluted moving backgrounds or animations.
Better designs.

Yes I do. Because I play it online and it is worth it. 5th gen is by far the best.

Riiight..the mechanics. IV and EV training and the Bracer breeding tactics.
The narrator in the videos is a little annoying, but it's interesting to observe a skilled player in action. Also, I had no idea about the rotating feature. That looks like it makes for some very unpredictable outcomes.

The narrator is me. Rotation battles are my favorite style of battle. It's tricky, unpredictable and just damn fun.

You...are...awesome. Grass types are my favorite types.
Thanks. I've chosen them over others since I was a kid. All of my friends picked fire. I can't remember if anyone was ever a fan of water. I've never really liked having to surf long distances, so my repository of water-types has been contingent on what I could fish for in most cases. Other than grass, I'd really like to build some theme-based teams. A dragon team, although likely overdone, would be neat. I've also considered a team composed entirely of household objects and a team of big bears named after Soviet satellites with the un-evolved form named "Russia" serving as the ring leader.

My apologies. The videos aren't bad! I actually assumed that it was a popular Youtube series of some sort XD

Are rotating battles now the standard or are more traditional-style battles still an option?

I generally do mess with effort values as they're easy to manipulate, but I don't go for IV's because it's hard to figure out what IV's your team has.

I generally try to get as many elemental types on my team as possible.

But where things get complicated for me is the movesets.

Apology accepted. Thanks. Ha ha..I'm afraid not since 1) I don't use Pokegen to make my pokemon. 2) I don't use the Replay feature. 3)I don't emulate the game. (And yeah...it bothers me seeing that on youtube)

Traditional 1v1 and 2v2 is still there. But Triple(which I haven't done yet) and Rotation(my favorite) add new elements in battle. Give Rotation a shot one day. You would regret it.

What is Pokegen? I didn't think emulators were capable of partaking in the meta game.

Would you mind elaborating a bit?
