Poll: How do you name your characters in singleplayer games?

I never really thought about it, but now that you ask, I guess I?ve been using the same names since my Sega Genesis days! One of two names for male characters: either ?Gen? after one of my favorite comics from the ?90s (Gen 13,) or ?Marius? which is coincidentally my favorite vampire?s name from Anne Rice?s Vampire Chronicles and a variation on my real name. And because I?m secure in my sexuality, I often play female characters, and her name is usually assigned per whichever girl I am dating at the time.

I try to pick something that fits the character in my mind, and I take choosing a name fairly seriously. If I don't like the name, I'll probably not like playing the character. Sometimes I'll reuse names I've used before in other games if it's a similar character, although I might change a letter or two. Sometimes I'll use a name or variation of it from a fantasy novel or movie I've read/seen before.

My knight in all the Dark Souls games was named Rhaegar, named after Rhaegar Targaryen from the Game of Thrones series.

I often play beefy, masculine warrior-types in RPG's so I usually use harsh, guttural names for them. Kerg was the name of my orc warrior in WoW. My barbarian in Diablo 3 is named Kraag.

Sometimes I'll get stumped trying to think of something fitting, and I'll go to an online name generator or flip through old fantasy novels for ideas.

If the character is already named, like Isaac in Golden Sun, I leave them it. If its a game where you make your own character, or its just an "avatar of you", I name them Mira. Now, in a series with lore, like The Elder Scrolls, well...I "roleplay" them. My Skyrim character is Mira, but my main Morrowind/Oblivion character has a different name, and my Arena/Daggerfall character has a different name, since in my own headcanon, they are all specific people (though I do headcanon that they are the hero multiple times). Dont know what my TESVI character name will be though. I also have side characters with different names.

But then all my Dark Souls characters are named Mira, since there is less roleplaying who you are beyond perhaps the ending.

I usually sculpt a face and then decide what name that face makes me think of.

For instance, my Dark Souls character looked kinda like Akon, so I called him 'Mr. Lonely'. It was quite an adventure he went on... By himself.
