Some of us buy sandbox games for a break from the linearity. Some of us buy them for the unique freedoms and gameplay innovations. Some just buy them to fuck around in. How do you play them?

I never did a single mission in GTA3 or Vice City. I drove around town squishing hookers listening to hair metal. In fact, that game would have been better if they took out the missions and added more ways to squish hookers.

It depends. I'm usually pretty karmatically neutral since my average video game persona is a thief with no particular interest in good or evil. But it also depends on the tools that are at our disposal and the characters we're given to play. Look at Prototype for example - if you haven't killed anyone in the last minute you're not playing the game right. Fallout 3 was more intriguing when I played it as evil, because the skillset (ie Cannibalism perk, Mr. Sandman perk) gave my character a distinct personality. Being a thief, I can never really be a 100% good character, but embracing The Lone Wanderer as a psychotic psychopath was absolutely great!

If the morality is just in the background, like in dialogue choices or one-off decisions you make in the story (ie Mass Effect) I'll choose the good route, if only because the evil choices usually alienate the other characters, and I like them enough that I want them to stick around.

i have gta4, and barley have the story 50% done. i dont care about the characters, storyline, or events. it makes me bored and its just not that fun to me. so i usually just spawn a sports car and run over anything in the way, picking up their money on the trip backwards.

I usually just murder everyone and jump off buildings, but I never save my game when I do that in games like GTA4 where I lose money or weapons, or something along those lines for doing it. In games like assassin's creed and prototype where there's really no penalty for killing or dying it's pure stabhappy fun.

Hn, I finish the story first, then run around and kill everything I can. Prototype is reeeeeallly good for that. All those innocent, squishy, tasty-looking civillians...

Sometimes I'll add my own little side-story though, so I don't get too bored.

I normally play through as a wusbag (just like in real life) on the first play through, then I'm an evil bastard on the second try.

I like finding a big gun and blasting the holy sweet hell out of everything I can see.
And, if I can I like flying as high as possible before leaping out and trying to bounce off the ground.

So pretty much, I just try to mess around as much as possible before actually playing the story.

It depends on the game.

GTA games will have me running around blowing stuff up.

Games I can relate to and have character customization will have me being pure good. (or in the case of Fable II 'Pure Evil')

Fallout 3: I was always pretty evil.

Prototype: Evil, but can you really be anything BUT a horrible bastard?

Oblivion: I was the God-sent savior of the land who brought sunshine and marshmallows to all the underprivileged children.

Saints Row 2: I just dick around and do crazy stunts with planes and cars.

Borderlands: I guess there isn't really a moral choice system, but I like to think I'm a nice guy.

Generally I play as the secretly evil guy. Everyone loves me, recognizes my greatness, then asks if I know about that recent rash of thefts or why no one can find Tom who stumbled in on me looting his stuff. Occasionally I actually feel guilty when doing the evil things, but that's mainly in games life Fallout 3, when I feel the character I'm dealing with is genuinely sympathetic and interesting.

Depends on my mood really. Some days I might just go bat-shit insane and KILL EVERYTHING WITHIN A THIRTY MILE RADIUS! D< Other days I just do story line quests and what not.. Other times I just tool about randomly.

I usually end up a bit more evil than good, just 'cause I like to kill people.
But when it comes to making MORAL CHOICES I usually go with whatever seems cooler.
Yep. This to the letter. Whatever is most fun and seems the coolest, which is mostly evil.

It's hard to say for me. I always stick to the sort of dark side, but basically doing whatever makes the most sense. A Darth Traya/ Kreia of sorts.
