ever been on a boat before? that seems pretty random, and i'm fairly sure it's "boy" never heard it pronounced any other way, in fact you often hear in children's books when they distinguish the difference in meanings because the pronunciation is the sameMerkavar said:So i keep hearing people say buoy but pronounce it different each time.
So how do you say buoy and have you ever been on a boat before?
By buoy i mean the maritime thing that floats out in the water.
So you'd pronounce buoyant as boo-oyant? Or boo-eeant?Jonluw said:My reflex would be to pronounce it boo-oy, as in 'buoyant', but now that I think about it, isn't the correct pronounciation 'boo-ee'?
I'd still pronounce it as boo-oyant.b3nn3tt said:So you'd pronounce buoyant as boo-oyant? Or boo-eeant?Jonluw said:My reflex would be to pronounce it boo-oy, as in 'buoyant', but now that I think about it, isn't the correct pronounciation 'boo-ee'?

That just sounds awkward to say. It probably just seems weird to me though, since I've always pronounced it boyant.Jonluw said:I'd still pronounce it as boo-oyant.b3nn3tt said:So you'd pronounce buoyant as boo-oyant? Well, like I've said, I've never pronounced the word out loud. Haven't really had any need to use it ever, so I have no guarantee that the way I imagine it's pronounced is the right one.b3nn3tt said:That just sounds awkward to say.
