It's news to me that people pronounce it "zed" in other places. Why is English so different in America? It doesn't make sense...

I'm an Australian who pronounces it 'Zee'.

'Zed' sounds silly, and doesn't rhyme in the alphabet song. For these reasons, I dislike it.
SEE SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS!! Zed sounds STUPID.

I say zed, unless I'm reciting the Alphabet song, in which case it would be "zee".
Zed just doesn't rhyme.

I pronounce it like an "s" with a buzz.

Or did you mean phonetically? You did, didn't you. That's "zee."

I mean, obviously.

I alternate, depending on what version of English I'm trying to stick to at the moment.

In text, though, it's usually American English... but there I usually don't have any reason to type out the pronunciation of 'z'.

I think zee seems like a more natural way to say a letter, while zed seems more like it should be a word in of itself. To me, it doesn't matter as much if zed is technically right. Zee just sounds more natural for the letter.

But I will admit that calling zombies Zeds, while completely silly to call them basically Z's, sounds pretty awesome.

Well goodie for you. What do you want? A cookie? -.-;
Only if you got one.

But frankly, the simple act of informing the OP that not all New Zealanders are zee-ers is its own reward.
