Poll: How important is getting the 100% completion to you?

I've never gotten 100% completion on anything.
Most of those untouched stupid quests are boring, tedious quests like, "Go out of your way 5 times for no reward", "Garbage-pick-up 1000 coins", "Meaningless alternatives, and "Fail or succeed in an obscure way".
Why?

What I hate the most is a new game when you constantly get the "Mission complete bronze" popping up on your screen blocking whatever cinematic your actually trying to focus on.

Almost never, the only game I've ever completed 100% was Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on PS2, and I'm damn proud of it.

If I think I can then I will, but even then I would likely give up on it. I just love to see something say 100% complete.

Nope, I never actively try for 100% completion in anything nor do I care about the achievements/trophies. I just play a game until I beat it or stop having fun.

Only when it adds to the gameplay / story. StarCraft 2 is a great example where achievements/completion in single player campaign adds to the overall game experience.

Achievements or goals that are tedious and add little or nothing to the actual gaming experience are never purposefully done:
Civ 5 - Build 500 temples
Fable 2 - Own every property in the world
Oblivion - Collecting 100 Nirnroots

I try to get 100% Achievements where possible, but I must say I have a loathing for collection/hunt type achievements, and I abhor it when they add new achievements that require DLC to get. For example, I earned 100% completion in Halo Reach just for them to add more achievements with DLC and to get those achievements you HAVE to buy the DLC. At that point I was sick of the game and I wasn't going to buy DLC, so my 100% completion for it is ruined.

Some games I will just play for the story, as some of the achievements are too hard for even me, or the game is simply boring, but games I enjoy I will attempt to get as many achievements as possible. I refuse to grind a game though simply for an achievement. While I hate multiplayer achievements, I will do my best to get them, but only if I enjoy the multiplayer. I don't mind grinding for level 45 in BF3, but there was not a snowballs chance in hell I was getting to the max level in Homefront.

EDIT - exception is Crysis 2. Terrible game, but the only one I had at the time, so I forced myself to get everything for it to extend the playing time...
EDIT 2 - really mad at BF3, I have every achievement except 1 that has to be performed with an online Co-Op partner and requires more than a dozen simultaneous headshot. Yeah, fuck you DICE.

Really depends on the game. If it's a game I really like I will go for all the achievements to make the game last as long as it can. Otherwise if the game is bad, or just meh I will probably finish it but not worry about any of the achievements.

Depends i like to do all the sidequest because most of them are fun and rewarding but collectibles and other stuff i usually don't unless they give you a good reward, a horrible example was in AC 2 where you need to collect feathers seriously feathers i fell like an idiot collecting them and the reward was a useless cape.

I actually got Saint's Row 3 to 100% although it isnt all that hard and it is fun to reach it (very little collectible hunting, and the one that there is is easy and fast to complete).

I still have to complete the Hitman, Chop Shop and Challenges for the achievements though.

It's not something I set out to do, but if I get to 80-85% without really trying, then I suddenly feel compelled to reach 100%

I'll try my best to complete a majority of the sidequests, but I won't go through multiple playthroughs on increasing difficulty just to get all of the LIVE achievements (I'm looking at you, Mass Effect).
The only game in which I pursued that endeavor was Halo: Reach, because I perused the achievements list and saw that they were all reasonable. I soloed the campaign on Legendary and knocked out half of the achievements in one go. The rest came to me through a bit of multiplayer. I never went back and got the DLC achievements, though.

It depends on the game, but I'll usually go for the 100% if the payout is worth it. For example, I went for 100% in Bioshock because I wanted to hear all the audio diaries, but I didn't bother with flags in Assassin's Creed because I was told there was no reward for it.

I've only ever got 100% completion in one game...which was Assassins Creed 2 and it took me absolutely ages....and several hours of reading through on-line help sheets to find all the feather locations...haven't even attempted 100% in other AC2.5 or AC2.75...just not worth the time and effort.

I never bothered appeasing 'S Creed or its sequel in that aspect.

But let me tell you that Brotherhood and Revelations are actually much easier to get 100% synch in. You can buy maps to find the Borgia flags in Brotherhood, and after stumbling across 50 of the Animus fragments in Revelations, the other ones automatically appear on your map. Having only one city and those fast travel tunnels really help matters. Aside from the occasional thumbtack in your heel (which often a quick Youtube video can help), those two games are a cakewalk.

Only if it adds more gameplay. Skyrim is a good example. I want to finish all the quests as they can vary a lot and have interesting stories behind them. Games where 100% normally means "get all trophies" like in the CoD games can be ignored. Doing something a 1000 times does not make it more fun.

Not really I think the closest I got was around an 80% in Infamous but I didn't go all the way because it had one of those find them all achievements which I never go for because they aren't any fun at all.Basically if the achievement is skill based and not to much of a pain in the ass to do then I'll give it a shot but if it's one of those find all 150 gems in the game world then fuck it.

Actually I just remembered that I beat all the levels with mario in Super Mario Galaxy because of the promise of a special ending but the ending was the same as the normal one except now I get to play the whole game over again with luigi... I was not happy about that.

It very much depends the game for me. Hexyz Force, nah. Playing each story once was enough, and I decided to watch the True final boss you get to play AFTER doing it ALL again to get these pieces of some relic (I didn't know where to get them at first).

Monster Hunter Freedom Unite? Hell, 100% that game, cause it was loads of fun to do!

So yeah, each game can make me motivated to beat every single little thing in it!

It's more important to me than it should be. I have an obsessive personality, and seeing that I'm missing 1% or something like that will bug the SHIT out of me. It's like a puzzle that's missing a piece. It's like someone who keeps singing one particular note a quarter-tone flat, and no one else seems to notice.

It's kind of a pain in the ass, too, because going for 100% completion is almost never fun. I wish they'd just leave it out of games, in most cases.

100% completion usually comes down to collecting a bunch of random shit. Sometimes that's fun, like when exploring is a natural part of the game world and there's some reward to going back because you've gained new abilities that let you open areas you couldn't open before (like in Super Metroid). It's usually not fun when you're just collecting random shit scattered around the game world that you've already navigated a million times, like flags/feathers/etc in the Assassin's Creed series. If you're going to let us buy an in game map showing us the location of those things, it's at least tolerable. If you're not, that means I'm going to have to look up a guide of it on the net, and constantly alt-tab between that and the game while I collect said stupid shit. I HATE doing this.

Sometimes it means completing random challenges and minigames. That can be fun if you can complete them in a few tries and they give you a chance to do something you don't normally do in game, or use some existing ability in a new and innovative way. When those challenges and minigames are absurdly, inexplicably difficult, it's not fun anymore.
