Poll: How intelligent do you think you are?

I'm probably slightly above average. I know everyone is saying that, but I suspect the type of people this website attracts will mostly be between average and super-intelligent. I consider myself above average because, while my written skills aren't great my physics knowledge is pretty good for my class, as is my Philosophy knowledge.

The great thing is everyone thinks themself to be above average. Who gives a crap what you scored on a standard test. Anyone can have a good or bad day on a test, or cram enough in to be remembered for one day.

Whats funny is when the smart arses who scored A* on everything opens the bonnet of their car and their head explodes, And they come running, crying needing help to fix it.

Id say im average, met some insanely smart people, yet lots of real thickos to.

Then I'd also say common sense outweighs booksmarts anyday.

I think I'm pretty smart, standardized tests and school grades support that, but I'm not very wise I guess, I make tons of dumb mistakes that seemed like good ideas at the time but always cause a monumental fuck up.

Depends really. I had to work my ass off just to get a C in Spanish and Bio, but I'm on my 4th semester of calc (differential equations) and haven't ever really had too much trouble.

Sure, I've had to work hard, but I've gotten pretty much As or Bs which is better than most.

Anyways, on subject no. I would not say that.

I was mentally screened or whatever a while ago and while my reading comprehension and reasoning skills were commendable, my knowledge retention was below average and the word average was used quite a bit.

Coupled with a low graded mental processing speed it all adds up to about the middle tier on the intelligence ladder.

Remember that everybody believes they are either "smart" and "above average". Overestimating yourself is an easy thing to do in this case. Not to mention there's many kinds of intelligence. There was this kid back in school that read math four classes above his own but who could never grab the concept of cause and effect. My mom can't solve a logic puzzle to save her life but has been headhunted several times by schools looking for a new expert in pedagogy.

I have no idea about my own intelligence. I struggle with stuff like math and physics but can read 200 pages in an hour and memorize most of it. But i never managed to memorize grammar, despite that i write fine because i just feel the way the words are supposed to be structured.

It feels very unevenly distributed.

Competent in most fields, most of my grades in school was B, highest was A* in English Lit and C in Math.

So like pretty much every regular human being I have my strengths and weaknesses.

I'd say the ability to harness what raw ability you have and put it to good use is more important than being intelligent in the first place.

Statistically Im thicker than a door post. Last time I sat an IQ test I scored a woeful 92. My degree in a BSc, and acceptance onto an MSc combined with an imo fairly good general knowelge of important things (IE not what happened on corrie last week or how much Arsenal is paying for some dick which kicks a pig skin) generally allows me to assume Im in the more intelligent segment of the internet population in many things.

To be able to learn or understand or perform something within a given subject quickly/with skill.

To have a perfect memory is not intelligence (The problem with the modern education system right there)

It is somewhat undefined as to what areas specifically you are able to understand constituting intelligence. But I think it depends how you use the word. Its context. For example. Traditionally intelligence is academic. Someone who is a great writer or director is a genius. For example people often refer to Shakespeare are a genius or brilliant but never intelligent. Similarly an actor is brilliant or gifted, rarely a genius, never intelligent.
