Poll: How much education did you get?

I graduated high school... thats about it... I don't really plan on going to university either, even though everyone (well okay mostly just my aunt and my mom) pressuring me to go

I really think college degrees are on their way out. Employers are complaining of a talent shortage, college graduates are complaining of low pay, and no one is really training anyone for real on the job experience... which is what employers really want.

I can honestly say I'm glad I didn't waste my time with higher learning, taking on student loans. Over several years, I did receive an associates degree from a community college when I could afford to pay for classes in cash.

I have a friend my age, closing in on thirty, and he's 40K in debt between loans and credit cards, and still works as a waiter. This is with him still living with his mom and dad, paying no living expenses and being handed money. Meanwhile, I busted my ass since high school and I make what he is going to make when he gets his degree, finds a job, etc.

By then, I'll be making more because I've learned how to just go out there and start doing.

There's something to actually talk about in yet another poll thread for ya.

Now, please know that I am only pointing out the flaw in your argument. I make absolutely no judgements about you or your decisions to drop out. Hell, I was a college dropout at first. I quit after my 2nd year of failing grades because I didn't care. 5 years and many occupations later, I returned to school for an AA degree and am now completing a Masters degree.

You are getting a degree for the sake of getting a degree, you don't even know what you want to do with your life

Actually, not true.

I got a degree in Sociology (BA) as it interested me and I want to be an advocate for social justice and multicultural studies.

My MS is in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling, and guess what? I want to be a MFT.

Therefore, my degree is not simply for the sake of getting a degree. It's because to do what I want to do, I need said degree.

Got turfed out of university because I disagreed with a professor.........now thats what I call petty academic nonsense.

Dam you baited me, what was it about.

During a history seminar, I saw something on a tv documentary and asked whether technically WW2 started in 1937 when Japan invaded China and that 1939 is a very western view on the war, so we debated it, as a group I might add, with me being the most vocal. A week or so later the prof hauled me before the dean saying id been very aggressive and had brought his ability to teach into question.

According to the university, its not a students place to question lecturers and discuss events......so I was thrown out. Complete bullshit if you ask me, I just feel that the guy was power mad.

I'm sorry but that simply can't be all there was to it. I believe your story but there must have been something else if you would be willing to disclose...

Nope, thats the extent of it. The guy couldnt take the fact that I brought something up that he couldnt explain away and over exaggerated events to the faculty board. I tried to appeal the decision but aaaaall power to the head of depaaartment

Those academics are so sickening, believe everything they do is better than anyone else, just arrogant. Good luck with your future

I got my GCSE, A levels and a Bachelor of Art Degree. I have no intention of getting a Master or getting another degree at all (to me I know I would fail master and it's pointless getting another degree to get a job).

I've got 13 GCSEs, four AS levels, two A levels and am qualified in AutoCad by City and Guilds to a level 3 standard.

I made the mistake of attempting a Game Design course at ITT Tech. I'm glad I got out before I went through with that mistake. One of my closest friends isn't so lucky. When he finishes his degree, Sallie Mae is going to fuck him hard.

I didn't complete my bachelor's so my loan isn't gigantic, however, no matter how much money I throw at it, it's stayed relatively at the same amount for two fucking years. If I still had my old job, I would have had that completely payed off in half a year, but with the crap wages I make these days I'll have to just have to suck it up for now.
