Poll: How much Harry Potter have you experienced?

I've watched/read them all. I enjoyed the books quite a bit since I basically grew up with the characters. The movies were kind of hit or miss. The seventh book was definitely my favourite and the third movie was probably tied with eighth movie for my favourite of those.

I... tried the first book. Really did. It just never grabbed me. 100 pages in, I was still bored. Too old and jaded when it got popular, I guess. I think at the time I was also reading A Storm of Swords and working 80+ hour weeks.

As for the movies... I watched the first one with my parents when it came out, because my mom wanted to and I had nothing better to do at that moment. It certainly captured a sense of childlike awe at the whole affair. I've seen little bits and pieces of the other movies, but again, it never really caught my interest much.

Like I said in my post, the series didn't do much for me until the 3rd movie. Both the first and second book/movie are very kid-oriented, so they never reach levels to be interesting. In the 3rd book, you start getting glimpses of the adult wizard world, and that's where the cool shit starts to happen.

My point is, don't judge the series by the first two books/movies alone. Watch the first two movies to get through them, and then find yourself an audio book of the 3rd and listen to it when you're doing something that doesn't need your full attention. See if it piques your interest then.

Everybody in our civilization is at least a bit familiar with Harry Potter. So how, and to what extent, have you experienced the adventures of the boy who lived? How many books have you read, and how many movies have you watched?

Considering the fact that you have "nothing at all" it really seems like "all the books and all the movies" should be an option - particularly since that is likely going to be a very common answer. After all, anyone who liked the series is probably going to read and watch the whole thing.

Read all the books except the first one and saw all the movies except the sixth one. At first I had no interest in the HP series but after I saw the first movie i decided to check out the books. Though I didn't read the first one since I already knew what happened in the book. Don't know why I never bothered to see the sixth movie.

I have read all the books and have seen all the films. My cousin has all the books so I ended up reading them all over a couple of days to pass the time while I was house sitting for him. They were alright I guess, nothing special, it didn't make me want to run out and buy them myself, and I have seen all the films but that was because Alan Rickman plays Snape, and when you have Alan Rickman in a film you can bet I will watch it, but the films aren't all that great either. All in all, I find Harry Potter alright if you want to waste a couple of hours, but I don't think it is as good as people like to make it out to be.

I remember reading some of the books when they first came out. I never read the whole series though just books 1-4 and thought they were pretty readable. I think I saw the first two films on TV rather than the cinema as I wasn't particularly bothered about them by this point. I then saw the very last film at the cinema with a friend and wasn't very impressed with it I think because I found the ending so cheesy.

I'm still looking for one that portrays Draco correctly, but nope, I have to keep on dreaming I've never really come across one that portrays Hermione right either.

Read all, seen all. Overall, I enjoyed the series- the movies less so, but that last one had one of my absolute favourite movie scenes in it.

When I was younger, my mother would read the books to me (I believe we got as far as the fifth) and I watched the first two movies, but I soon "outgrew" them for more mature fantasy and haven't really ever returned to them, nor do I plan to.

Never read any HP fanfic, but I'm guessing since she's a female character the portrayal is more "crazy sex fiend" than her regular Spock-like intelligence. Am I close to the mark?

When the first book came out, I was right at the proper age to really get sucked into it. By the time the last book came out, I had outgrown that, but still wanted to know how it all ended so I still read it with gusto. I've only seen the first movie in full, and parts of the second and third. Didn't really like them, they were too focused on appealing to children, which is great and obviously the way to go, but it did mean I don't like them very much.
Also the whole thing were they changed certain things too much from how you remember it or pictured it in your mind, and it irks.

I grew up with the books. Prisoner of Azkaban was the first "novel length" novel I ever read. I liked the first two films too, but after the third one I just watched them out of habit.

Read the books, enjoyed them when they came out. I did try re-reading them recently, but I can't stand the writing which is blatently aimed at a young audience. I mean...the writing is better than Twilight, but it's still for a similar age range.

I liked the movies, particularly the latter ones where they got a lot more mature and darker.

Fuuuck the movies... They just don't capture it at all in my opinion. And there are way too many plot holes to excuse. I'm not talking about "logic" based plot holes, like about how Hogwarts is still open with all the ridiculous child endangerment, but just straight story and character based plot holes. I have ranted many a time about them. It's just too tiring to do it every time the subject comes up so I'll settle for this...

Harry Potter films? *FAAAAAART NOISE*.

Though the first two I felt were decent. The original Dumbledore was portrayed with absolute perfection. The Dumbledore after that suuuuuuucked. Didn't capture the character in any way... Just felt like he was trying to be some epic gandalf imitation. Biiig failure.

I read the first few books, up to the order of the phoenix then kinda gave up. Similar with the films, still have not bothered watching the last 3 even though I bought them on Bluray for the Mrs.
