I just ran across a statistic that says approximately 25% of Americans didn't read a book last year and I was curious to see how often people around here read. I personally read about 3 books a month which is not nearly as many as I'd like to. I think part of the problem is that I don't see advertisements for books often enough and I'm too lazy to actually look up what is coming out. What will usually happen is I will see a commercial for a movie and be like, "oh, that looks interesting, I think I'll see that." But with books I have to do more work to find out what's out there and what's good.

Well, I read something like 3-6, depending on amount of free time, and whether there are some new books in the library :)

I read all the time, but my book count is low (1-2) because I usually re-read poker books and I don't count that.

this thread has inspired me to read atleast 4 books every month. TY GOOD SIR YOU ARE A WINRAR.

But so far I?ve read a pretty good collection, some 100+ works dealing with classical literature and philosophy.

In a normal week I generally get two books read - sometimes a little more or a little less depending on other factors.

I always have a book in progress, but I'm never in a rush to finish it. It could take a week, a month or even half a year, I don't mind, I read when I feel like it. But most of the time, one book a month.

I voted "1-2 per month" - I love to read, but I'm pretty slow with it, and I usually read fantasy or sci-fi novels that are at least 400 pages long.

I try to read as many books as I can, I try to go for 2-3 a week or so. I do however only really read at night or on holiday if I read during the day (except on buses, planes and the like) I will generally fall asleep and I do try to read books of varying length and quality, so far this month I've read a brave new world, 3 Raymond E. Feist Books and a Ben Elton book. 20 pages from the end of my current book too.

i can usually get 5-6 books a month (when I'm on holiday/vacation). depending on how busy i am, and if i found any good books. i don't read bad books, and I'm usually slower when re-reading a book (it's not just the same level of excitement and anticipation as the first time.)

but since most of my books are a minimum of 400 pages often around 600-700 it tends to lower the number a bit (to 2-3 a month) the fact that I am a swede but read every book in English doesn't really help (It being my second language and all that!)

EDIT: one of my mothers work friends can read a 400-500 page book in one evening! witch i must admit is somewhat crazy...not to mention REALLY expensive o_O

I also forgot to mention that a few years ago when I was lying in bed with a fever it was about 8:30 at night and I thought it'd be a good idea to read the narnia books. So I did, I don't know what time I went to sleep but it was before sunrise and I finished them all.

I read about ten books a month, and my collection spans nine bookcases.
I'm rather impressed.
I'm rather suspicious and dubious...unless 9 out of 10 of those books involve Scooby Doo or Zoos.

As for myself? I tend to read on average 5-6 books a month, depending on their length...actually, that's bollocks - last month I read all of the Dark Tower books, and they're cumulatively total at least 4500 pages, so really it is how much I like the book; for example, those books on average were 800 words, and I read them in a day and a bit each.

So really it depends on the spare time I have and the interest I have in the book.

Incidentally if you haven't read The Dark Tower books, I have to hold your family hostage until you do, and then you have to tell me why the ending is in fact amazing and touching, with a glimpse of hope in order for me to set them free.
