So... if I happen to be 25, do I vote for "22 - 25 years" or "25 - 30 years"?

I'm 16 but what is funny is on team speak somebody thought that I was in my mid to late 20's so you can't ever really tell. Also the main age range is probobly 15-30

So as many of you know, we've reached the age where a full generation of people have grown up in an era of video games.
Makes me think of this:
YES!
I still do this with the 360 and Wii and DS.
Don't work? Blow into the slot.

umm hate to break it to you, but the escapist is not your typical gaming population. polling us wont give you the typical gamer age, try polling ign, or gamespot.

but that wouldn't be average either especially game spot because we would end up with too many people on the younger side of the spectrum so I don't think there is any way we could actually do this poll accurately is too do it like a census but I don't think world governments would allow that.

Last i checked the Official world wide poll of the average gamer was ::drumroll: 30 yrs old.
That sounds to me to be more of a median than an actual weighted average. I could be wrong I suppose, but I would be very surprised if the number of people playing in their 40s-50s was equal to those playing in their 10s-20s.

Wow this poll is a pretty cool parabola.
Could easily work out phi of this then calculate the probability of a gamer being between a certain age.
Amazing.

I think once the person is old enough to get a job and buy their own games and also old enough to get any rated game that's when the game age starts to boom.

Well it boils down to your definition of "gamer." If you mean Wii owner, 7-12. If you mean hardcore gamer, maybe 15-20.
Why is there always someone who thinks there is a need to rant? Even on such a simple topic.

I didn't expect to get many under 10, as there aren't that many kids that age surfing the web and posting on webforums.

However I did expect to see a much larger 30+ population than our results have shown. I guess a more acurrate title for this poll would have been "the average age of the escapist." Perhaps older gamers shy away from gaming communities such as this one?

I don't think he's necessarily ranting, simply pointing his opinion on the average age group nintendo attempts to appeal to.

I think he's right to a degree, wii deffinately has more kid friendly and family oriented games than any other system. However it also appeals to a much wider range of gamers than any other system, though I'm not sure that's their largest market.

Nice point, I have to admit that. But I doubt he thought that way.

Anyways, Nintendo has always been the first option for kids who wanted to get into gaming, and rightfully so. They're pretty much the only company that provide games that can be taken up by kids AND not suck shit. There's no reason to hate them for it and they won't stop Rockstar, Epic and Capcom making games that are only suitable for grown-up gamers.

I quite agree, I grew up with an NES, SNES, and N64. I loved all three of those consoles to death. I'm not sure why I never got a gamecube, I think it was because all of my friends raved on how amazing the original playstation was so I jumped on board the sony train with the PS2.

I never purchased a wii, though I did give it some good thought when they released mario galaxy and twilight princess. But i figured it probably wasn't worth spending the money on a new console just to keep up with the next generation of nintendo franchises. Maybe some day when it comes down in price.

I am going to have to say that I will be gaming long into my retirement, nothing gives me more satisfaction then sniping my son and his friends in Halo 3 or CoD, or smacking the crap out of them in Madden football or TW golf. It is also very good bonding time with the kids when you can relate to them in something they enjoy doing.
