Ok, let me explain my situation: I go to a middle school in Marlyand, and "dating" has become as big as it would be in high school (I think). I mean besides the crushes and occasional hug, kids are actually talking about the latest hook-ups or break-ups. I was wondering everybody's opinion on the matter. I mean, I have a crush, but even if we became friends, I would never consider going on a date until at least high school, but thats just my opinion. What do you guys think?

IMO it's not like dating earlier or later really makes that big a difference on how their relationships work out. I know people that dated since elementary school and are happily married. I also know a few couples that started dating in their late 20's. I know one couple who dated at 40 something. All of them were first timers. Most of the unhappy couples seem to have started dating in their teens though.

12-13, that's when the kids around me did and I've never seen any problem with it. I just consider people who think it should be something done later remnants of a long forgotten past.

You mean the long forgotten past when marriages were arranged at the age of 8 and progeny were bred as soon as possible, and as often, for fear of too many deaths or girls?

Dating prior to 15/16 is stupid. Socially acceptable for most, but still stupid.

Seriously, what do 13 year olds do on a date? Get driven to the movies by mommy? If you're not at the point where you're managing your own life to some extent, you shouldn't be attempting to manage relationships.

Well I'd say it's pretty difficult to slap one age range on everybody because these things are very circumstantial. It has a great deal to do with the maturity and mindset of the individuals involved. From the list though I'd say about 14-15 sounds right.

Oh come on, let the little kids be. That age is all about figuring things out. let them have there fun. so what if it doesnt work the same way its does with older teen or even adults. All the kid really needs to care about then is the fact that they are with some one, that its not with a gourp, but actully a one on one experience.

I voted 14-15. That's when I started, and I believe that you'll have much more useful experience, than someone who started dating around 17 or 18, and you won't seem like a awkward loser later in life.

Also, you're pretty much guaranteed to get through some form of heartache/heartbreak at an earlier time in your life, which I believe is a necessary part of learning who you are. With that experience you'll be able to deal with heartbreak better, preferably though, you'll learn to avoid making the mistakes that may lead to heartbreak, or just the mistakes that have to do with being in a relationship in general.

Hey! Go Maryland! *ahem* sorry. Anyways, I would say 14-15. Mostly because that's when people first start having an interest in dating. But really, whenever you feel it's right, that's when it's right.

14-15 sounds right. make some mistakes now so you make sure not to bump into them later.

I never dated much. It's a strange social custom that I feel uncomfortable in, much like dancing. If you're not enamored after the first date, chances are that more dates will only confirm this. I believe in instant attraction mostly.

I'm 14 and I got into the dating scene only this year...though it was rather like getting the 360 in 2012...everyone already has one by now and kindof thinks you should already know how to play it...

I have a daughter and she can start dating at 16 years old. I don't care about other people kids. That is not my business.

Actually you are right. Science is finding that biologically we make up our minds subconsciously with in minutes of meeting a person, if even less.

I'm 20 years old and haven't had a girlfriend yet. Actually, girls avoided or ignored me most of my life, apart from family members, obviously, but yeah, that's the truth. Until about a year ago, when I started getting to know people online, and surprisingly, most of those friends are actually girls.

I've never had a real crush either while growing up, my first and only serious crush started six months ago and is still warm within me.

I like that.

I know a guy and a girl at my school who have been dating for over a year. They are doing just fine.

i think people shouldnt date when they're young, they should enjoy their childhood more o_O
also, most young people only think they fancy others because of their hormones and stuff, its better to wait until the changes are over before you decide to start dating

although im 17 and never dated, so i dunno if im just old fashioned?

im sure someone will quote this and prove me wrong somehow,
