5'6" here. I'm a 26y/o male from New Hampshire, USA.

It friggin' bites being short, especially since everybody on my dad's side of the family, male and female, is tall (and he's one of 15 kids to the same two parents). My dad is 6'3" and isn't even the tallest among his siblings. Meanwhile, my sister and I are both short. She's 5'4"-ish.

About 177cm I think. So 5'9-5'10-ish. While not exactly short I'm still the shortest man in the family and most of my male friends tower over me.

185 cms.

I don't know what that is in Ameriunits.
185 centimeters multiplied for every second? One day you will engulf the world! Just messing with you.

OT, since I haven't bothered to learn the.. "unique" american measurement system, I am 189 cm.

Edit: I just realized that joke makes no sense. I shouldn't post at 2 am.

I'm 1,72cm.
Think that's 5'7 or 8, not sure.

As for folks reading this and feeling short, don't worry, everyone is always really tall on the internet ;)

I'm 6'2. Funny, since when I was little, a doctor told my parents I would not grow much more than I already had. Proved him wrong!

Did you rub it in his face? I had the opposite... doctor told me I'd break 6 foot easily given KS... 5'10''.

Though I wish I was shorter. Kind of sucks being the tallest in your class well until your senior years. Makes you stand out even more regardless of where you're seated.

If I remember, he wasn't my main childhood doctor. I actually don't remember when this happened, or why I was seeing a different doctor. Though I would totally bring a yard stick and show him just how much I've grown if I got the chance. :D
Not that he would remember me of course, I don't even remember him after all...

Geez, lots of tall people here.

5'6" if I'm not slouching. With shoes I'm probably an inch taller.

Next question is, how many of the people who answered lied about their heights? Most people do, whether intentional or not.

I'm 6', but my back isn't entirely straight anymore due to years of bad posturing + scoliosis so really I'm about 5'9-ish give or take. Yes you can lose 3 inches from posture issues. But my DL says 6' so thats what I answered, after all I'm not about to dispute a legal document.

I'm 168cm tall, a little shorter than the average here for girls (or it certainly feels that way), but not by much. I wouldn't mind being a little taller, but it's too late for that, I finished growing a few years ago.

I recently met my old-old-old-old doctor. I only recognised him when he said his name on the phone. We ended up having a coffee together. I like doctors outside the clinic, not so much inside the clinic. They become different people on the outside, so most doctors I find entirely personable on the outside ... but naturally if you're forced to see one your demeanour changes.

It was a refreshing kind of conversation. Utterly candid, but with no stigma and it's like ... 'friendly science', with scones and coffee. So I don't hold much of a grudge either. Well, I don't hold a grudge at all because I wouldn't want to be much taller by choice.

You can also lose and inch or two by dehydration also, supposedly. Because the disks in your back absorb water or something, and with limited water, limited disk size. For obvious reasons this is not a recommended course of action for people wanting to be taller or shorter by cutting, or drastically increasing, their body's water content.

Yes, yes don't dehydrate/over-hydrate yourself to get taller/shorter. Bad idea. Reminds me of that chick that died because a radio station stupidly was holding a "hold your wee for a Wii" contest. Stupid.
At some point, in the future, there'll probably be ways for people who aren't happy with their height to get some form of cosmetic surgery to make them taller/shorter... But personally, unless your height is truly a handicap and interferes with your daily life, one should be happy with oneself.

You can really see the bell curve on that poll...in fact, it's a rather exaggerated curve. Assuming everyone here was honest ;)

I am a centimeter over 6 feet, so I usually call myself 6'1" in shoes. My (male) boss at my last job was about 5'3". It was a little odd bending my neck down to talk to my superior.

1.7653 x 10^15 femtometers, roughly.

Also 6' to 6'6", seems too wide of a range. 6'-6'3" is more mainstream tall, anything over that is another league. Here's to everyone born in a time before parents genetically decide how tall the world will be.
