It would have been nice to have both sets of measurements, but I personally appreciate the metric system being used. I mean, we don't actually use it much here, so we tend to guesstimate more than anything else when using the imperial system. So, for example, I'm about 182cm tall (give or take), so guessing my imperial height, we go 30cm = 1 foot, therefore I am 6 foot and almost 1 inch. But an inch is actually 2.54cm, which throws it off, bumping me down to 5 foot almost-12 inches or a flat 6 foot.Souplex said:
But we predominantly measure using the metric system, so for things like height, we have conversion errors unless we go out of our way to find and imperial measuring stick (isn't it a little strange that Australia, a commonwealth country, uses the metric system, while America, the self-proclaiming republic, uses imperial measurements?).

6'2", I'm the tallest in the family, it's kind of weird looking down at everyone in my family, though I have to look up to most of the people I know, as I still remember being much shorter than them. I just stay sat down now, as to avoid the usual comments, oh aren't you tall, are you still growing? NO, I'M NOT, I HAVEN'T GROWN AN INCH IN 5 YEARS! Oh well

I am 6 foot 2 inches. Only grew 1 inch after 16 - sad. I agree with comments re younger people getting taller, particularly men. I mean, I'm only 33 but a lot of guys in their late teens and early 20's seem tall. Of my generation and older, I stand out as being a fair bit taller than average. Quite a lot of my male friends are in the 5ft6 to 5ft10 category.

168 last time I checked. 5'4" or thereabouts. I've always considered that to be on the low end of average, not "above average" as the poll implies. Perhaps it's different where you are.
