i live in buffalo, ny and secretly love techno trance progressive music and was wondering, how does one find out about a rave and/or does anyone here know about anything like that happening around my area or within 50 miles of here. also, do you like techno, or do you dislike it, cause from what i can tell most people either people love it or hate it.

Basically any bar that has a really neon light outside or a line is where you will find one

Scene ain't what it was several years ago. Word of mouth and all that, sure, it's still out there, but if you ain't already in with a group, good luck. Er, at least around these here parts, anyway.

But lately I've seen/heard tell of several events through Facebook, usually through friends whose friends are DJs. Hate it, like it, whatever, but a lot of cool opportunities flash across that home page from time to time...

You have to carry a huge sword and Cone nosed dog around, and go cross country looking for four magical stones. Wait I'm thinking about something else.

Dunno about US but in UK there are plenty of record label or org websites that have link to other pages that have links to other pages that have phone numbers.

Or find a nightclub that plays the desired music, or a shop that sells vinyl, go there and get chatting to people, make some friends and they'll help you out.

Alas too much drugs and too many crazy women made me drop out of the rave scene. I'll go to one if it's not too much effort to get to but I don't get into it so much and certainly won't do a whole weekender, I'll probably leave by 5am at the latset. I did go to one and dance a bit in 2009 for my birthday but I haven't DJ'd at one for years.

You don't find raves. They come to you.

It's like that bit in Dune, except you want to achieve the opposite result. Basically, you need a thumper that will put a rhythmic beat into the ground - and then you need a strobe light. These 2 combined are like your bat signal, man. Just set them up in a field, wait for about an hour, and either you'll be devoured by a sandworm, or a haze of glowsticks will descend upon you, and The Rave will have arrived.

Well done, valiant warrior. When the Valkyries of the Rave god, Technoviking, are cleaning up the mess, you should be held aloft and transported to Trancehalla, where all they do is Rave in preparation for Ragnarock.

You know it's funny, I've dated a couple of girls into the rave thing when I was a young'un (always been incredibly attracted to the stereotypical 90's raver girl with a brightly colored wig and pvc boots), but I never really felt the whole rave scene, much less the music. Maybe it was those stupid jerks with Dr. Seuss hats?

Punk shows in smokey basements will always be number one to me.
