With the seemingly permanent departure of Infinity Ward from the series, leaving the generally-considered-to-be-inferior Treyarch to keep it going, Kotick's talk of making us pay for everything with a vowel in it, all the constant moaning at MW2 for imbalance and ridiculous camping problems and the countless nigh identical competitors, many are left thinking that the Call of Duty series is running out of steam.

How do you think it will compare with the last edition of the series?

I was lucky enough to have played Black Ops at a convention I attended. The multiplayer gameplay is that off MW2. They are adding the zombie multiplayer which people loved in World at War. The story line is intriguing not some crazy America under attack wierdness. Modern Warefare took a while to grow a large following and with the release of MW2 it grew substantially. MW2 was some peoples first look at CoD and seeing the preorder craziness that Best Buy, Amazon, and Gamestop are pulling off for numbers this will easily outsell MW2.

I dunno, hasn't been marketed as much but it will sell a lot of copies

However because it doesn't have that modern warfare tag on it, I think it will sell less copies

So however many copies World at war sold really maybe a bit more

I would say less than MW2 but not by much. Then again, weird shit can always happen. I just feel that MW2 will have put off a few people from CoD (it did for me) but sales will still be very high.

I doubt the majority of people buying games keep up with game news, or really notice what publisher/developer makes the games they play. I thought I read somewhere the preorders were already up around MW2 levels, so I'm guessing it'll sell more.

50-75% of sales. It's not getting anywhere near the hype, both because it's set in Vietnam (yawn) and because it's a Treyarch game. I have high hopes for it's quality though. Hopefully Treyarch actually fucking listened to the MW2 community about what drove them insane, what broke the game, made it unplayable for "good players" etc. There's a reason most good CoD players have gone back to CoD4 or World at War.

I think it will hit 12-15 million, so i picked 75%, with the masive opening sales of Halo Reach thats $200 million taken out of the market plus the rest of sales that Black ops can't have now.
Medal of honor is going to snatch some sales away.
Strong multiplayer from Reach and MW2 is also going to lessen the sales.

I don't think COD has run out of steam only that the modern warfare style is a lot more popular and the game faces strong competition that MW2 did not have to face

I think it'll be less. They'll probably get some people new to CoD but I think they'll also lose people who disliked the MW2 multiplayer. On top of that, MoH is coming out before CoD so you might get a lot of people jumping the bandwagon.
