Wait twenty years, then come back with a Zeno Clash style game where Sonic's had a makeover into a badass furry or something. Turn it uber-violent and cyberpunk to cater for the older people who grew up with the classic games. That'd be awesome. You know, like sprinting around people in really strange arenas where the walls are no obstacle, and zooming past with some brutal hook to the face on your way past. Wheee.

Use the same spiriting style from Sonic 3/Knuckles (no 3D effects) and make an entirely new (finished) sonic game that could be mistaken for an honest-to-god Sega Genesis game. Please see megaman 9 and 10. That's how you freaking do it!

Give him an M4 and put nazi zombies in the game and make it controversial. Ok not really but for some reason I have a feeling that would sell :p

I'd follow what Extra Credits said on one of their mailbox episodes. Make him dissapear for a few years and hand the franchise over to a newer, more competent studio to redesign the game, and rework the mechanics. Yes yes.. you hop over enemies or fly into them, and collect rings and reach the end. Thats all fine and dandy but its very repetitive.

Take for example how FF7 crisis core, reworked the battle mechanics for FF7. That made the game more engaging for the player, and a hell of a lot more immersive than the simple drop down menu type battle system FF has been working with for the past 15 games.

I don't quite know exactly what I'd do to change it but if anything needs to be changed it's the game's mechanics.

Edit: Oh and they need to do something about the game's dialogue. No offense, it looks like a 3rd grader wrote it.

Make Sonic an insane villain. I mean full on crazy. Sacrifice, bathing in blood, decorating his palace with entrails. I would buy a sonic game then, even if I played as a good guy. Just so I could see the fall of Sonic, or rise depending on how you look at it. At one point in the game he has to scream SO MUCH BLOOD!

Wait 5 years, then release a Sonic 2D game ala Super Mario Brothers Wii (IE with modern graphics but keeping the "classic" playstyle, more or less) to re-lay the foundation of the franchise, mostly avoiding side-characters (Except for Tails and Robotnik) and trying to keep it simple with plenty of room for expansion.

I realized that the only god ones now are ones where you play os other characters other then sonic. (DO NOT COUNT 06!) Remember Sonic adventure 1&2? Last games that let you play as Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow. (AGAIN DO NOT COUNT 06!) Well except Shadow the Hedgehog. And that game had good sales as well. So ya.....

Since when did Sonic need saving? Every Sonic game that sees a major release gets bought like crazy, hence the reason more games keep getting made. People love Sonic on a level normally reserved for Mario himself, and the series will probably continue to be profitable for a very long time.

If you're talking about saving the so-called "hardcore" market... Yeah, that's not worth saving. The hardcore fanbase is completely unpleasable. In all honesty, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 was everything I've ever wanted out of a new Sonic game, and is pretty much exactly the game I would have made if I'd been tasked with "saving Sonic". But hey, the fanbase hated it. Because it wasn't Sonic 2 with a new coat of paint, they hated it.

So screw it, I say. Let the hardcore fans play their Sonic 2 remakes and keep making money off the Sonic name with games that appeal to people other than cynical 25-year-olds.

The last sonic game I cared for was Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast. The Bosses and Level designs were f***ing awsome. And do we remember the little Tamagochi pet we could store in the memory card?

Anyway. Does Sonic still have to save cute furry animals from giant machines? Or is he too cool for that now and busy setting fire to bridges and falling from space? They should totally bring that back the furry animal saving.. that was always the point of the original games right?

I think they just need to take a good long look at what makes the 2D games fun, then start again with trying to translate that into 3D, because what they've been doing so far just doesn't work.

Personally, I think this could in part be due to the camera angle that the 3D games always have - low to the ground and right up Sonic's arse. Maybe if they zoomed out a bit and changed the angle so it was slightly more top-down rather than forwards, the extra viewable distance would allow for better gameplay than "hold forwards, press A to bounce on bounce pads, run towards a loop-the-loop and watch a cutscene of you running through it, repeat"?

I say Sonic finally had a good year with Sonic 4 & Sonic Colors.
Sega should continue what they're doing with Sonic 4 (I think ep. 2 is planned for this summer,) but take a break from the 3D games.

Sonic Colors fixed a lot of what has been bad lately, but it isn't perfect obviously. It's a great place to give Sonic a break while a new dev team returns to the drawing board and takes their time on producing a really great 3D Sonic game (which may mean more 2D/3D combination like Sonic Colors.)

I feel the past few games have been too rushed, but seeing what they produced this past year proves Sonic can be great again. I wouldn't mind if they took a few years to work on the next game while holding the fans over with more Sonic 4 episodes. So long as he comes back with a truly great game to put him back on the map, it would be worth it.

I've really lost interest in the Sonic series when Heroes came out and the negative reviews for games after it. I would have said give Sonic to another development team, but right now I don't care anymore. With Sega milking the hedgehog to death and releasing more than 3 games per year, I think it'll be best for Sonic to be put to rest.
