I was just wondering what people think about this? This is about the human as a species not about personality. So what do you think are we inherently good, bad, or a tabula rasa (Blank slate in in Latin)that society scribbles all over? And please say why you think your choice.

I hate to out myself like this, but when I was looking at the thread title I was like "Is he making a thread about 'Beyond Good and Evil and 'Tabula Rasa? That's for Gaming Disccusion!"

I adhere to the Tabula Rasa theory, btw.

I was going to put blank slate there but I just like using Tabula Rasa better anyway. Hell, it might even educate some people

People are inherently good, the response of empathy is on of the earliest observable emotions in almost all children.

Why not both? I figure that it's more than possible for an "empathy gene" to exist(note: not a geneticist, just someone who thinks chemicals run my mind), but then again, you've got your upbringing and education that will define who you associate well with and who you can't stand to be around.

A little bit of good and a little bit of evil.

Not so much Tabula Rasa though.

I wouldn't really say Tabula Rasa. I would say that people will do whatever they consider appropriate and possible to get what they want and acheive their goals. Whether they are "good" or "evil" simply depends on what they do, the circumstances behind what they do, and how what they do is perceived by society.
