So, in an effort to combat homelessness, they've decided to ban it outright?
Wouldn't it make more sense to actually provide some programs to get these people off the streets and into normal daily lives?
I just find it irrational, that not only are they banning homelessness, they are going to fine anyone breaking this law... They're fining the people who can't afford to have a roof over their heads in the first place.
I may not be a socialist, screaming out against the injustices of the world, but this is just appalling.
Do you think this is a good thing? Why/Why not?
It wouldn't be the first time.
I stumbled across Australian laws from 60-70 years ago... Oddly enough I think they may never actually have been repealed.
According to those laws, it's a crime to have no money!
But, this is just typical of attitudes that make no sense.
They imply that being homeless and poor is something people do out of choice, and that they could easily choose not to be like that.
It's one of the things that always bothered me about the idea that everyone should just be able to look after themselves without any help from the rest of society.
The idea that you're a helpless victim of circumstance is definitely unhealthy.
But the idea that everyone's circumstances are their own fault inevitably leads to anyone that has a run of bad luck being ignored, and treated like worthless scum who are entirely to blame for their own misfortune.
The meritocracy is just another myth used to justify the successful not needing to give any consideration to the 'failures' in life.
Because, hey, all the good stuff in my life is entirely my own doing right? It's because I worked hard, and am very good at what I do. It has nothing to do with random chance or circumstance beyond my control.
And your life sucks? Well, try harder. It's all your own fault, and I refuse to give any consideration to it being anything other than things you have completely within your own control.
Or something like that.
Sorry... This kind of thing always makes me incredibly depressed.
