Killing animals is nessessary so they dont overpopulate and all starve to death, us killing a few animals is better for the species.

Well, Mother Nature seems to have managed fairly well in the millions of years before the erection of state-approved population controls... Equilibrium is hardly a natural state of things, anyway. Nevertheless, a few of my friends are hunters, and they are all resonable, learned chaps, so I've never have had much trouble with the concept.

Well... I would like to point out that mother nature never had to put up with humans destroying animal food source. But, i agree that hunters need to be resonable and take it in moderation.

Actually, that's completely true. Managed to forget that with some 6,000,000,000 people around, we're going to affect local ecosystems whether we hunt or not...

Yeah, in my area wolves and cougars are gone, so deer rule the day. Chronic wasting disease is rampant, so there are regularly open hunts to reduce the heard. People screwed it up, people gotta fix it...

Because I feel like this thread could use a bump:

I should also mention that in the last few years people have noticed that the deer in my area are adapting to the hunting seasons. By this I mean that hunters have been noticing deer looking up into the trees as they walk. While it might seem like not much at all, this means that the deer (who have never had any need to look up into the trees due to the lack of preditors up there) are learning to spot hunters hiding in tree stands, and then passing the knowlage on to their offspring, thus adapting to humans being their main preditor.

"OMG killing innocent little animals!"

Only hunt if your gonna eat the thing, even then its pretty weird that you would want to spend your time doing that.

The kill is the smallest part of the hunt. Most poeple think that hunting is all about killing an animal. But what it is really about, what people really go hunting for is the whole expirience of being out in nature. How often do you get to see the rising sun first start to melt the frost off of a leaf? Have you ever seen a red fox leave it's den to rest in the sunlight? Have you ever seen a egale go into a freefall from 200ft out of the sky to catch a rabbit? You see things in one hunt that most people never get to see in their entire lifetime.

p.s. And yes, I do eat whatever I kill.
