I've noticed often when trying to discuss the possibility of tossing in a homosexual lead/main character into a game, especially a male one, I most often turn to Captain Jack Harkness, who, while not gay himself (though his actor is), he is pan/omni/whatever sexual, and is usually juggling multiple relationships.
Let's say that they make a Torchwood game. Let's make it a Max Payne 3rd Person Shooter, with some Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit puzzle solving elements in it. But, to top all that off, let's also say that you need to keep not only Gwen happy, but also Ianto, and maybe the alien-of-the-week satisfied in your job. Sure, you could blow off one or two of them, or all three, but, let's say if you did, the game is seriously hampered, and you don't even get to the last stage, just a meek psuedo-ending of sorts, credits roll. Or, you work on each of the relationships, which will include kissing, a lot of sweet talk, and perhaps a fade-to-black scene with implied sexual actions (I guess like Golgo 13 for the NES, sure, why not)
Okay, with all that said and done, would the game still sell? Would the game sell as well if we take out the active role of the relationships and just explore that in cut scenes so the action-shooty aspect isn't as hampered? Or is the fact that the main character is snogging another male going to be that revolting to people?
